Please help!
I know this is off topic (I have posted the same on the 944 turbo and S board) but I really need some help here and maybe you guys can help.
Just found out this morning that I managed to destroy the engine of my poor little 924S project car on the first test run! A few yards from home it made a weird engine noise and then cut out. Upon removing the head, the dealer found that a valve dropped on the 4th cylinder and COMPLETELY disintegrated the piston! All that remains is the rod... no trace that there ever was a piston! The resulting violence cracked the block on both sides - a total loss.
They quoted me $6700 for a 944 8v motor from the factory. I have already spent more money on this car than it's worth and things are looking rather grim at this point.
The only way I will consider putting this car on the road again is if I can turn it into something better than it was before. To me that means replacing the motor with a 944 turbo power plant.
What I need to know is if this is practically possible and what it will involve. If it can be done I will obviously have to locate a replacement motor and I need your advice here too.
Keep in mind that I am in Saudi Arabia and will have to import the motor as there is no chance of finding one here.
The way I see it the engines will be identical but the intake will be different so I need a total solution.
Can I turn a pile of metal into a 924 turbo S?
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanx

There is a place in Phoenix Arizona called 20th Street Auto that has used motors (for example - a 928 S4 motor costs ~$3500). They have a website - I just didn't add it to my favorites, or I'd include the URL.
You might try giving them a look.

Reinhardt,
I have seen a couple of 944 up here (was offered one a couple of years ago for SR14000), a red with UAE plates, local silver, but both were rego and running. Dont know of any broken ones here, but will keep an eye out.
There is a metallic red 928 5 speed S for sale in Riyadh now (?82), cloth interior in pretty good condition, body straight. According to the car yard man, owner is asking SR20k, and it gets real hot really quickly. I offered SR5k for it as a parts source.
I would try searching UK and US webs for a motor, and see if you can find a friendly freight man.

Thanks guys, especially JP.
I think my only option is to find a motor in US or UK and ship it here.
By the way JP, I found excellent sources of 928 new and second hand parts in the UK but nobody knew what you were looking for. In the end I didn't get any parts whatsoever because of time constraints, a hectic schedule and problems with delivery (to a hotel). I will publish the parts sources soon. They seem really jacked and had heaps of stock.
Cheers,
