Ho hum...
Just what the World needs...
A station wagon, that's 4 Wheel Drive and can go over 155 mph!
Now, let me see some pics of the power plant...THAT's what I want to see.

There will be two versions of a new 4.5 liter V8.
The Cayenne "S" will have 340HP, and 420Nm or torque. 0-60mph will be about 7.2 seconds, top speed 151mph.
The Cayenne "turbo" will have 450HP, and 620Nm or torque. 0-60mph will be about 5.6 seconds, top speed 166mph.
Both engines will be very clean, far better than the extremely strict emissions limits of the upciming EU-4 standard.
The Cayenne will come standard with a 6-speed tiptronic and various differentials for decent off-road traction.
It will be able to tow weights up to 3500kg (3.5 tons).
Note the two different front sections (pictures 1 and 2 vs 3). Number 3 is the top of the line turbo Cayenne, with larger openings in the front, and "power domes" on the hood. The turbo also comes with 4 exhaust pipes.
The rear could be pretty much any Japanese or American SUV - I can't see anything Porsche-like there. It just shows how little you can do on a SUV, if you stil want to keep it practical...

Kind of a shame that there's so much negative feelings about it. Like it or not, it's coming and
will probably meet or exceed expectations sales-wise.
Personally I don't think it's so bad looking and
will probably look better on the road, I like the
fact that they've put some similar styling into the design so it looks Porsche.
From what I have seen/heard/read it will handle
like no other SUV but rather like a Porsche and the off road capabilities will be real and exceptional. I'm sure it'll be comfy too.
Hmmm a Porsche model that does everything and does everything very well....sounds kinda like a
car we all have in our garages hmm?

C'mon guys and gals! It is family after all... It may not look like any Porsche I've ever seen before but the company still has to make money to keep building awesome cars. I'm sure W W knows what he is doing (he did save the company from bankruptcy and turned it into the most profitable auto maker on the planet)
I, for one, will welcome the new member of the family with open arms... for now.

True enough it is family. That one family member that you just know is going to be on Springer. Soon.
"Everyone serves a purpose in life, if only to be a bad example..."
Bright side? There's all new, factory-fresh, twin turbo V8s lying around the factory. Sooner or later, one of the rocket scientists in Stuttgardt just MIGHT hit upon the novel idea of putting it in a CAR. Tough sell internally, as it would make the 911 series look as primitive and underperforming as it really is, but it might happen.
Porsche, having milked some extra dinero from the type of folks who would buy an X5/Escalade/AllRoad, might just be able to build some race cars again. If they can only remember where they put that map to LeMans...
If all else fails, the Cayenne will have depreciation rate that will make 928 owners not look so foolish after all. And, we'll have a great new source for factory engineered twin-turbo V8s - your friendly Porsche recycler.
There's a silver lining in this dark cloud, you just have to squint really hard to see it.

Is it April 1st already? It's just gotta be. Porsche must've accidentally swapped in the photos of the VW version. Or maybe the "real" Cayenne will debut later. All that bulging silver metalwork is still part of a horrid test mule "disguise", right?
The artist conceptions published in the various mags look far cleaner than this. Porsche might have taken the hint, but it's too late now. The thing is mouthy, bulgy, squat, ungainly and closer to estate proportions than an SUV.
I can't wait for the first pearl-festooned, latte-fetching Hausfrau to crumple a turbo while talking on the cellphone. A quick salvage nab by 928 International and we will then know all we are dying to know...does the engine fit in the 928 engine bay?

BTW, Snowball, I love the R5 comparison. I actually saw an R5 Turbo on the road here in town a few weeks ago. Whee!
