Post rear hatch_back is stuck.

The rear hatch back is stuck. It use to work okay. One day I tried to open it. I put in the key and turn it put the lock does not disengage. How do I open it so I can replace the broken devices. Where can I get them?

Thank you

You will need to buy a new rear hatch lock (2 versions, alarm and non alarm). There is a piece that rotates in the tumbler that pops up the white latch mechanism which breaks off. You can turn the key but nothing happens. To open it, you have to remove the tool kit cover from the inside and find a way to get a screw driver in to pop the white plastic latch mechanism. Most people drill a small hole in the square shaft that latch drops into. I believe the prcedure is described on Greg Nichols Tips site. It's been 3 years since I did this, so I forget the whole procedure.

Cool

Hey,

If the white plastic striker is the only thing that is broken, you can buy a new striker from the big 3.

Thom,

Only problem is that 99 times out of 100, it's not the white plastic part that breaks. It's a metal part on the tumbler.

Thumbs up

Ian: Your original question (how to open stuck hatch) involves climbing into rear deck, removing tool panel and releasing from inside. I haven't done this myself, but I've observed mine from the rear end; with you in position, laying in deck, if someone else actuates the hatch release beside the seat you should be able to see which way to move the release mechanism. You should be able to release it manually.

Quick Reply: rear hatch_back is stuck.
