Default Schooled some kids today, but in a good way :)

So I'm pulling into my local Autozone this evening about 20 minutes to closing and the two guys that work there are outside talking.

They see me pull up and both walk over. They clearly know nothing about the car but are very interested.

'So, whaddya got in there a four or a six?'
'Eight'
'Really?'
They walk over. One of them going completely around my car...
'What year is it?'
'85'
'Wow, it's in good shape'
yadda yadda yadda, I open the hood, start it up and they enjoy another listen to the rumble.

20 minutes later we're still talking cars inside after I got the stuff I needed. I've had several people that I knew tell me that they liked it, and often get long looks as I go by, but this is the first conversation I've ever had that was started by the car.

Honestly, this happened today, although Matt (Leperboy) said a similar thing happened to him in another thread and I've had the 'How many plugs?' question come up before as well.

School's out.

Only if you want them to know.

Mike, my experience was at Autozone, too. I can't say I have ever been impressed by the staff there. Maybe I will do an unscientific survey of the local auto parts stores and see which ones' staffs know how many cylinders a 928 has.

One nice thing: the other day I bought some new e-clips at Napa. Actually, I didn't buy them. When the guy behind the counter found out all I wanted was four e-clips (two for the headlight motor shafts and two spares), he just said "have a good day" and sent me on my way.

I once toyed with having a license plate that reads "NOITSAV8" (No, it's a v8) or maybe a bit clearer shortening it to "ITS A V8"

I did see one here that was 32VOHC. Thought that was cool too.

Who was it on here that said something like:

928:

"Nine quarts of oil, two wheel drive, eight cylinders"

Or was it:

"Nine quarts of oil, two doors, eight cylinders"

And yes, the 928 is fun, I get the occaisional discussion out of it. And in my own little commute to work "attention *****" way, I'm convinced everyone is admiring my P-car, and wishes they had one. Heh heh...

I had a Miata guy talk me up not too long ago. We were driving along next to each other for a bit, and ended up in the same Charbucks.

He complimented me on the '8, and had the usual questions and the inevitable "I've always liked the 928". By the end of our talk, I could see the wheels turning in his head. Cracked me up, ha hah...

And I should say, I also complimented him on his nicely kept up Miata and told him I would own one if I could fit in it, which he seemed to appreciate (which is true, I probably would own one, but at 6'6", its not gonna happen - although I have heard the Cooper Mini's of all cars are quite roomy - I may look into one of those for a commuter car).
