Default 82 Speedometer

Ok, this is probably obvious, but... my speedometer and odometer quit working. I have had the speedometer rebuilt and still no work. I sent the entire cluster to have the circuitry checked and it checked out to the plug under the pod. (The bonus is that I now know which plugs on the connection work the speedometer.)

I've checked the connection at the spare well and checked the no resistance - infinite resistance of the sending unit at the connection. I assume it must be in the wiring somewhere between the sending unit and the pod plug. (Oh, I bent the connection in the female portion of the pod plug to make a tighter fit, so I don't "think" it's there.)

I guess my question is, "is there anything else between the sending unit and the pod plug that I can check?"

I don't want to, but suppose I can start replacing things, starting at the sending unit, but I hate that method.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rod

Rod-
Check the printed circuit connection pins/rivets. There are (I think) four of them that run to the speedometer from the foil/plastic. Mine read fine with a multimeter until flexed or turned. I soldered the rivet to the foil quickly, and the speedometer has worked perfect since.

Thanks, I had it checked from the pod plug and the speedometer worked fine - which suggests that the printed circuit is good, it just won't work from the car input.

Rod - sounds redundant, but worth double-checking with a continuity tester between the <iirc> #12 wire in to the left pod connector and just onto the circuit film ...let's see, lying underneath looking up while still connected, now it's the right pod connector and last wire on the left; poke the wire pre-harness, with other end touching the little exposed area of the circuit film just above the plastic connector clip.

IF, continuity with that pod connector, keep the pre-connector poked in and run a long wire to extend continuity to the spare well connector (pre and post spare well connector points).

Assuming the pod connector checks out, you'll find either the spare well connector is flaky or post-spare well to pre-pod is flaky.

IF, the latter, then it's likely in the footwell board wires... I'll dig out my diagram of which board wires to ck and repost here later.

FWIW - the Blue Car has been intermitently elusive, but I have now determined it MUST be the inner sandwiched wire of the circuit film --> doesn't work, plug to speedo ck out, doesn't work, plug to speedo ck out.... At least double checking up to post-pod connector will confirm wiring is sound, so it must be the known sketchy circuit film itself.

at bottom of main board in footwell:
T1 & T2 are IN br/re (brown/red stripe); H1 &H2 are OUT br/re

still don't get how to read the page#'s correctly, but
WSM: Part XI - 14, from speed sensor up to 'top gray wire flow banding'
flows to Part X - 40, for H2 and Part X - 21, for H1; at junction 'top gray wire flow banding'

good luck!!
