Default Dead Tach

I am trying to get the tach working on my US 82 5 speed 928. It was dead when I bought it about 9 months ago. I did a rennlist search and didn't find much useable info. Does anyone know the most common cause for this? I have recently taken out the pod and cleaned all the contacts to no avail. Also, the mpg meter on the tach is also dead.
Thanks for any help. I really love you guys.

My tach and speedo sometimes don't come up when I pull out from somewhere. If I tap the pod gently, they pop up.

I have had the pod apart once and cleaned all the connections, no help. Does yours come up if you tap it?

Mike,
Thanks, I have never seen any movement from the tachs needle. Just sits at zero no matter what I try.

Bob,

There's another thread going right now about no tach or speedo. It says something about maybe resoldering the connections on the foil. I have read where others have found 'cold' solder connections or ones that just haven't aged well. Hit them with some solder and get it to flow back where it should be and all is OK.

I think I might just do that, couldn't hurt, (probably).

Thanks Mike,
May be worth a try, but then again, you should see my soldering.
