What? - tell me you haven't really been driving without a battery installed..?
Thats a really good way to fry your alternator and even the ECU's... the battery is vital to the voltage regulation function... Even running with a badly damaged battery is risky...

Jack R.,
Can you do a hot alternator acid test for me.
High beams on. Fogs on. HVAC set to Defrost. AND rear window defrost on.
A loaner Bosch with aftermarket american voltage regulator failed that test.
That FrankenAlternator ran fine otherwise.
At the killer load setting and idle battery reading was 12.5V. Barely.
So in winter stuck in traffic jam scenario, alternator won't suffice in current configuration.
I need a Mr. Fusion.
This was on an 88 S4 5-speed

I'm not sure if the company is still in business or not. Wrangler power products used to be at 7901 E. Pierce in Phx. They were the absolute authority on high poweralternators/elec. systems. I used to have a high end stereo shop and we got all of our elec. pieces from them. We did dual batt. dual alt. systems and never once had a problem. They even custom made alternators w/remote mounted-fan-cooled diode packs for tight space applications caried wire, connectors, the whole deal. They were big with the four wheel crowd that had winches, lights, and such. I also have a source for small size gel type batteries from a place that makes all types of badass batteries for the military. I have a couple of 12v batts that are about 10 inches square, great for space limitations. Good luck with your project. email me if you want more info on the small batteries, Rick
