Our price on the Genuine Porsche belt for your car is about $85. Our price on the OEM belt by Gates is $35. Your money, your car, your choice.

I would think an OEM belt would last 4 years.

Jim,

Why do you say that? Not that I disagree, but I feel that there is very little information about the chronological limitations of these belts. My gut feeling is that a lot more mileage can be crammed onto them if they don't get too old or "dryrotted". Of course, it is not prudent to skimp on such a critical item.

You would think that they could manufacture a permanent belt, given that we have landed on Mars and flown past Pluto...

Niklas, do you know who manufactured your belt? Are there any numbers you can read? We might have the same part.

Sorry for the delayed reply. My belt is manufactured by Federal Mogul. Unfortunately, I am at the moment unable to check the belt for any identification codes. But the invoice from the shop that sold the belt has the code 4830598 on it. Hmm, that doesn't say much. Tried to search the web and the Federal Mogul web site but didn't find anything.

Best regards
Niklas

For what it is worth, I looked at my ORIGINAL belt after my mechanic had it out. I was surprised that it had little wear on it. It was in really good condition. We both agreed it was best to have replaced it (of course since he got a paycheck for his hard work) but wondered what conditions of other replaced belts looked like? Anybody have a picture from a routine belt change and not some horror story resulting from "spirited" driving?
