Fatal 928 crash in Indian River Co. Fla
#16
That really sucks, sorry to hear that. I have a similar 928 sitting in my garage, roll-over accident with the drivers seat absolutely crushed....the driver didn't have his seat belt on and was ejected. Turns out that was what saved him, ended up with minor injuries. You never know, but the odds are better with the seat belt on.

Here's what I sent to the FLA 928 gang:
The video player can be paused, right clicked, and zoomed. Only things I could tell was S4 or later, likely a GT/GTS as it had aero mirrors and Cup 1's. BUT - I googled the troopers name and got this:

Which just says the driver was from SC>
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Rain-slick roads Saturday led to the death of one motorist on Interstate 95 and a chain reaction of six separate collisions, including one tractor-trailer's destruction of a lobster fisherman's boat.
"If it wasn't for the boat, I probably wouldn't be here telling the story," Miguel Cruhigger said in the median, as he watched tow-truck crews pull apart the crashed vehicles.
Cruhigger, 32, of Daytona Beach, said he was returning from a lobster-fishing trip to the Keys about 4 p.m. when he noticed the traffic backed up in the northbound lanes.
So he pulled off to the shoulder to avoid hitting the car in front of him. Seconds later, he said, a tractor-trailer "swallowed up" the boat he was towing and the bed of the pickup he was driving.
Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Scott Gardner said the tractor-trailer driver, Johnny Whitehead of Tupelo, Miss., was trying to avoid wiping out several cars in front him in a head-on collision. So he swerved instead and jack-knifed the rig, forcing authorities to block all northbound traffic as they cleared the wreckage.
Gardner said the collision with Cruhigger's pickup threw it against another car, a Mercury occupied by a Hobe Sound family. He didn't have the name of the driver but said the occupants weren't injured.
Angel Hernandez, 43, of Miami, said he was stopped in his Jacksonville-bound tractor-trailer when the Mercury hit his truck.
Gardner cited Whitehead with driving too fast for the conditions -- a rainy highway where traffic was already backed up as authorities were responding to an earlier crash.
"But everyone walked away, which was fortunate," he said.
The driver in the crash that started it all wasn't as lucky. FHP Cpl. David Nelson said the 45-year-old man from South Carolina died in a collision with a tree in the median.
The driver in a Porsche was northbound about 3:30 p.m. when he lost control, left the road and rolled over a fallen tree, Nelson said.
Trooper Mellow Scheetz, meanwhile, said two Indian River County women's vehicles were the first to collide after emergency officials rushed to the first car.
She said Maria Zamarripa-Castaneda, 40, of the 70 block of South Lime Street in Fellsmere, was driving a Chevrolet station wagon and hit her brakes to avoid a truck that had stopped in front of her.
But Marie Hope Lindsey, 25, of the 8200 block of 93rd Avenue in Vero Lake Estates, was driving a Chrysler and failed to brake in time to avoid hitting the rear of the station wagon.

Can only echo what's been said already; very tragic and do remember those seatbelts folks.
Incidently, at a Porsche Center recently, I was told by one of the guys there that the 928 was "the world's strongest car - you can do saltos in it at at 200 km/h and you won't get hurt...". He added that when damaged, you needed a 'pull-bench' (not sure what it's called in English) normally reserved for trucks, to pull it straight again. Still, have seen photos of wrecked 928s that the drivers didn't walk away from, also before today. Curious though; what's the consensus about it being 'the strongest' or at least a very strong car ?
Regards,
Erling

928 body is exceptionally strong. I have also heard story about not being able to pull body back straight with normal passanger car bench and needing to loan second hydraulic press before there was enough force.

Here is a link to a Powerpoint presentation of what is probably the most completely destroyed Audi RS-6 that I have ever seen - and the driver got out and called emergency services...
