Carfax did "turnup" (garden joke) some thngs.

CARFAX searched over 2.07 billion records from nearly 800 sources and found 3 record(s) for this 1982 PORSCHE 928 (WP0JA0920CS820139).

Definitions:

Failed Emissions Inspection
The emissions check performed during a vehicle inspection indicated the vehicle was emitting more than allowable emissions standards and/or had missing or modified parts. Repeated failed emissions records can indicate engine problems and CARFAX recommends you have the vehicle inspected.

Salvage Title
A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle for safe operation exceeds its fair market value; or a vehicle that has been declared a Total Loss by an insurer or other state or jurisdiction. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eight States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, IL, MN, NM, OK, OR, GA and FL.

The carberator must have been stolen in between the passing and failing emissions.

I think you misinterpreted Randy's comment. I don't think he was dissing the car, just the need for any history, especially considering you are going to gut it anyway. Good luck, I'm all for saving fallen ladies; she'll turn heads again!

Yep, what SteveG said.

It takes a lot of heart to restore a trashed classic, but somebody should do it.

I think that as long as she isn't crushed, she can be beautiful again.

You shoulda seen my 914 when I started on her.

I was just kidding as well. It's hard to emphasize "context" in writing - I knew what Randy meant.

Also, I was just curious if it was a theft recovery. other than that, a carfax is pointless.

Peace and may the ZOMBIE be with you!.

Randy, when are going to give out your recipe?. I've heard so many things good about it, I'm dying to try one!.

Actually Drew, that signature cocktail is not a Zombie, but rather a variant of the Kamikazee that is made with precise hand-pourings of Ketel One vodka, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice.

Drew. nice project car. I bet it hits $1750.00 but, read my post about salvage titles. I missed your location, if you are bringing that car into a different state they may pick the car apart like they did mine. I will NEVER buy another salvage title unless I am 99% sure that the car is clean. Too much to loose. Good luck. I enjoy looking at cars like that and thinking about the posibilities.

Chucker thanks for the heads up. AZ is the same as CA when it comes to salvaged titles.

You go and have a police inspection - All they really check for is vin numbers or anything that might have been altered

Don't plan on regestering it anyway. Just apply for a AZ title with no reg - you have to sign a waiver for such.

I hope that your right. The officer that I delt with was very vague on why he wanted to look under the car when it was on the lift. After it was in the air he started to open up about what "might" happen. I thought you assh**e. I spent thousands getting the car to this point and now I might loose the car because there is a stolen part on it. And as I stated, they take the whole car for just one stolen part. He tried to trick me and asked about the front fenders. I had no idea that in 87 Porsche started to put recovery numbers on parts. Like I stated I was lucky. And remember, the law might try to trick you to catch you but it is actually the person before you. I will say that 1-800-Porsche was a great help in the effort to locate all of the numbers and Dave and Ginie at 928 Specialists 1-828-766-9280 were even better. But once again the only people that know if a part is stolen are 1- the person that stole it 2- the person that reported it and 3- the police. Good Luck
