Post 1982 928S Worth? 35000 Actual Miles..Weissach Edition

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1982 928S (Gold exterior)which appears to be in almost mint condition. This vehicle has had 3 owners (documented)with the last having owned it for appx. 11 years. It has been driven less than 5000 miles in that time. The car has been in stored in a building with tarp over it for the past year and a half.It has been cranked and run for sometime at least once a month during that period.I have yet to go over all the service records (owner happy to provide)so at this point not sure if water pump, belts, etc have been changed. The exterior and interior appear to be in almost excellant conditon.I was truely amazed at what shape it was in.Since I'm more familar with the 944's I thought I would ask an opinion of those who are more familiar with this year and make.I do like to car...but would like to get a better idea of it's worth before making an offer..any suggestions or note of problem with this year would GREATLY be appreciated!

Mikey, sounds like a weissach model, I'll defer to John and the other 82 MY owners.

Ok, the big Weissach question. Did it come with the luggage?? It seems that no one has ever managed to pick up a Weissach with the luggage still in tact. Would be a great coup to have that, I think.

Great find in any event. Now, are the wheels anodized or painted? Was always curious about that on the Weissach models.

I would pay 10k or a bit more for it. I really love the leather that they put in those! I belive the wheels are anodized. They do not look or feel painted, and they seem like they sort of match the color of the paint. They are different.

Well...
Pattycakes the wunder Weissach doesn't talk much about her brothers and sisters.
If this is the sHARk listed on EBay recently as an 82 MY S type I saw it. Point of fact it look ed pretty good - maybe even better shape than Pattycakes -.
I was going to mention the incredible similarity on the interior to others in the Weissach fold but the one person in particular is, I believe, in the market for an S4. Traitor -envy, envy-!
Take it for a spin. You will learn more about it's condition from an extended drive in town - stop and go - a quick ride on a super slab and a run thru some twisty's.
As for Value... I paid $8600.00 for mine - that is to much - but it did include the flight out to San Diego, overnight stay, gas, and chow on the trip back.
Like all of our sHARKs WE ALL consider them under valued. The Weissach's were a limited edition but so were the Club's, Euro's are also in demand but its more of a either or than a Big Money issue...for now!
The car in question is 20 years old, and while there are still a lot of 20 year old or older 928's running around attrition will eventually make all of the remaining 928's a car with true market value. That point, however, is a ways off due to the fact that there is a solid parts support foundation out there, people who actually love the car seem to gravitate together, and sites like Rennlist, 928 OC and Nichol's among others keep a hell of a lot of them from going to the boneyard because of simple (sic)maintenance experiences and networking.
The low mileage might be a good selling point on cars in general, but just running a piece of fine machinery does not keep the transmission seals soft, the injectors clean, all the vacuum lines soft and relay and sensors from dying of old age.
If she is truly cherry, good leather, good running, smooth shifting, great paint, good glass. Maybe the speedo, cruise control, and radio work, too! I'd pay up to 9-10K but that is to much to pay for a collector car that hasn't reached that status yet. Furthermore you could pick up a nice 86 1/2 with a lot more power for that much. The real problem I see with that car is that once you drive it you just can't stop.
It's a beautiful, eyecatching, comment inducing, performance car. You'll love to drive it! Other people just comment and stare. You can steer with one or two fingers, it has a torque curve like a major stock market blip. I travel fast, everywhere and due to the color the cops just don't bite, try that in a Guards Red version.
The performance and handling are phenominal even with the Auto. and this is one of the least powerful 928's out there! One of these days...
The service records are nice but it probably still has the original water pump, belt, wires, tensioners, brake pads ad nauseam ... If you can't do the services yourself I hope you have a friend who can or a large reserve of ready cash.
Cheer up though... if you do buy it it's still cheaper than a new KIA or Hundai.
If you look at it again see what month it was born on, OK?
Good luck with your decision.
Dan, Mine are the forged aluminum with anodized finish. They look like pewter except at sunrise and sunset then they match the body paint perfectly.

I'd say John's right on about the value (and some other things). Forged aluminum anodized wheels, no evidence of paint.
Luggage: my mechanic, who's serviced the car since factory new, told me that the matching luggage was an option one could get with the Weissach, and the original owner never had it. There's been speculation that dealers claimed this and in some cases kept the luggage for themselves... who knows?

bah! not a traitor, I'll make sure the golden beauty goes to a good home <img src="graemlins/wave.gif" border="0" alt="[byebye]" /> . S4s are still a bit out of reach, but if all goes according to plan you'll be seeing pics of something new tomorrow...

Thumbs up

Jessa,
just waiting for the news....what's it gonna be,
huh, huh?
Eventually, I'll have an 86 1/2 or better.
But, Pattycakes won't be sold by me as long as I have my wits about me.
I'd sooner torture puppies.
Maybe I'm a romantic but I can't imagine parting with her.
Keep me psted...Hey what was your Weissach's birth month and vin - if it's not to personal.
E if you want.
