84 928 Speaker grills
Just bought an 84 928 and it has 10 speakers with an aftermarket receiver. Did this car come with 10 speakers(3 in door and one back and one way back times 2)?
If I replace the speakers do I have to use the factory grills? One of the small door speaker's grill is missing (black in color)? All the resources I have found say to use the factory grill. Can I buy these anywhere?

10 speakers are not factory. IIRC, '84 was only 8 speaker factory (seperate tweeter and 4" mid doors, 6.5" rear seat and, 4" rear quarters). <'84 was either "S" w/8spkrs or "non-S" with 4spkrs; S4 was 10spkrs (adding separate tweeter to rear seat location).
Depth is your biggest constraint for door fitment.
Factory grills are not plentiful and often pricey --> make sure you have factory speakers before getting factory grills, as they only work together. Since you already know you have aftermarket components, the speakers may be aftermarket as well. btw - factory grills are screw-on, not snap-on.
Good luck!!

Agree - 10 speaker cars came later (S4) and the config was not as you describe.
Some factory speaker grilles screw on - some snap on - it varies by year. Otherwise agree and many aftermarket grilles are superior in strength and also factory ones wil not easily fit aftermarket speakers...
Unfortunately most modern grilles have gone all funky - seems they are now only intended to look cool - not to protect the speaker cones...
