Post vapor lock?? or cold start valve????

I have an '81 euro that has done what I am about to describe twice. It will start and immediately stop. It makes no difference if I give it gas. It will do it a few times in a row. Then if I let is sit for a while (15-30 minutes) it will start and run just fine. Today is the second time it has done this and it is vey humid here, could that account for something?
Thanks for any ideas.

Your problem could either be fuel or spark. If it is no spark, try checking the resistors in front of the left side wheel well. If it is fuel, try replacing the fuel pump relay with a jumper between connector 30 and 87 on the relay board. If it runs try connecting the jumper between 15 and 87. If it still runs, the problem is the relay. If it doesn't run the problem is your ignition switch. BTW don't leave it jumpered between 30 and 87 without the engine running as it can severely flood your engine. BTDT.

Does the '81 have a fuel check valve? When you wait 15 minutes, is that w/ the ignition on (i.e. fuel pump running)? I would bet on fuel as the culprit.

No, the ignition was not left on during that time. I did find a vaccum line disconnected and a Bosch metal stubby cylindrical thing with 1 of 2 wires disconnected. Could that cause it?
Thanks for the suggestions.

That round stubby cylinder thing sounds like your auxillary air valve or cold start valve. The aux. air valve itself wouldn't cause the car not to start but would cause it to idle high for too long after start. If the round stubby thing is your cold start valve, that could be your problem. The vacuum line to it is large and being off could cause a no start. The wire being disconnected would also cause it not to provide the extra fuel for cold starts. Does it start now that all is reconnected?

Well it starts almost all of the time. Just these two times that it hasn't. It does not idle too high for too long either. The car runs like a champ- except for these two incidents. I reconnected the vacuum line but have not soldered the bosch wire yet.
