has anyone attempted a 4 speed autobox rebuild?

is it beyond the scope of a moderately handy bloke to rebuild a 1984 4 speed autobox?

i just be-grudge spending hard earnt cash on something that i could maybe do myself.

Good question, if I ever attempt mine I'll install the first gear start valve body/ mod.

i've heard alot about this 1st gear mod, mine has always started off in first, i can count the gear changes up into top (4th)

did porsche build some 4 speed auto cars with 2nd gear start, and others with 1st gear start? or has mine been modified?
