-John I've used steel wool for years to clean the chrome on the '76 CB-750-Four that I keep in my living room. It leaves the fenders looking incredible! Of course, I wax them afterwards. I know what you are saying about the tiny rust fibers, however. I took it to the valve covers one day, which are soft aluminum, and wound up happy at the gleaming results, but since I washed the machine with water outside right afterwards, I wound up with little rust "snakes" everywhere the next day! I had to polish the valve covers in the living room, much to my cat's consternation.
[She was looking at me like "Now, just what the hell are you trying to accomplish here?"]
I don't think it is wise to polish the glass of a car with steel wool. It seems too abrasive- HappyTruck has a heavily scored windscreen from 36 years of stones and abuse, so I tried to use a polishing compound on it. No, it did not work! It is getting replaced anyway, as the cracks have gotten too large, and a place that repairs glass near my house has it in stock (which of course blows my mind!).
-Volkswagen is notorious for putting weak windshields in their cars. These are usually made by Securit, and though they are safe, my dad [who is 6'2 and goes around 230 lb and NO he's not fat...] was washing the windshield of his '87 Golf one day and litteraly broke the thing right out! I don't know who makes the glass on US model cars, but mine is Securit, though since my car was originally sold in Austria, it is not likely the original. The point of this is that this glass in not strong and it seems to me that it could be damaged by steel wool.

Don and Jay,
I believe in planning, but if we do have a gathering I would not want Anthony scraping barnacles, sweeping all the beer cans overboard or, Saints Preserve Us, even think about sprucing up the Gulf Godess- Redwing. Real casual would suit me. Zack needs to see another part of Texas and he, alledgedly, enjoys fishing.
Would like to see some more sHARKs and to Jay in particular, I would like to brainstorm injection systems.
However, the time line would be tight due to dove season. Tony, we just let the sprinkler water puddle in the street and have the cats bring the collecting dove's home in pairs - we can still drink our beer, but, the wives are here and we don't get to use the shotguns, pure sacrifice! As to the deer save the cash on the lease! Just drive from Roosevelt to Sheffield then north to Iraan after dark. If you don't mind the body work you should be able to front end half a dozen or so before the car/truck is undriveable.
Would be interesting MY 79 to 90 with only 4 sHARKs. Lobis over in Hobbs is selling his for some reason, so he's out I guess.
Tony, Thanks again for the scoop on the Lamp/bulb control unit. I have a suspicion that my constant low voltage issue is tied in there somewhere.
I'M NOT PLANNING on putting you out or causing stress, Honest . If the trip turns into a mini-shark feast we'll just turn you into an honest drunk, trash the town, and blame EVERYTHING on you. Seriously, I plan on 4-7 days, If we meet great if not don't lose any sleep.
Rain X? I've had those sealed Rain X pads in the glove box since Sito , might give em' a try.
Norm, What year did Honda come out with that metalflake orange 750? Same MY that lives with your shark?

Casual, absolutely. Putting me out? Never! Stress? that's what Xanax is for( adult beverages too). The more the merrier! Although the last time I saw that many Sharks in one place (SITO pics), I got out of the water! Remember, anything near Labor day will be tough to find lodging accomadations in a tourist town.

I just use a 50% dilution of ammonia (use DI water) and a soft cloth.
Works great to cut through the haze on the inner surfaces - that haze usually caused by outgassing of petroleum fractions from the plastic trim and any 'cleaners' that may be used on the leather and other interior areas.

A word of caution when cleaning your inner windshield glass or cleaning the dash. My inner glass has a plastic coating on it. When I was cleaning the dash , I got some cleaner on the glass and it hazed the inner windshield. I tried to clean it, but nothing works. I’m going to have it professionally buffed, hopefully I can save some money by not having to buy a new windshield.

Thanks for the info Randy, I wondered where that hazy, foggy glass was coming from. Ammonia is cheap and we actually have some. Will try it. Are interior products available that don't promote/cause this?

Hi Anthony,
I polished all of my windows with excellent results. Here is what I found. Rainx products are great. I tried “The Invisible Windshield Wiper” on my water marks. It would not cut them. I then used the Duragloss NuGlass to polish out the water marks. It was pretty ease to apply and remove. I hope to not need to remove water marks again for a long time. I then used “The Invisible Windshield Wiper” on the outside glass. I called the Rainx rep. He said that this product is interchangeable with their “Windshield Wax.” There are a few more Rainx products that are probably interchangeable too. I used NuGlass, then Rainx “anti fog” on the inside. The results are phenomenal. I rode around in the rain for a long time without even needing to use the windshield wipers. The water just beads up and rolls away. For the next touchup, I hope to just use a Rainx exterior product. Of course, I would thoroughly wash the windows, then use a cleaner like Windex before I would use the Rainx.
Did you obtain some good results?

Y'all are way over-complicating this, me thinks. All you need is a couple caps full of white vinegar and a wee bit o' lemony fresh joy dishwashing detergent in water (distilled, if you like). Scrub with one of those net-covered car wash sponges ("bug-removal sponges"), swipe with a small window squeegee, and dry as needed with a cotton cloth. Whalla! Easy-off film without streaks.
