Reset Boxster Computer w/ Battery Cables???
Hi Sharks:
I just got a Boxster, and see that problems like the false air bag warning light recurring issue require dealer service.
On my 928, you can remove the battery cables, and hold them together for a few seconds to reset computer(s). Does this apply to newer Porsche technology?
I removed the seats to re dye the leather. (Leatherique products are phenomenally good. See leatherique.com. - I have no affiliation.) The airbag light now stays on. A dealer has replaced seat belt buckles and performed wiring harness modification. So I now must take the car to the dealer to do a reset??? <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> The manual states that the airbag system is still active even though I get a warning light. So, is it working properly? Should I bother to have it serviced?
Is there not a way that I can reset the computer(s) without a service call to the dealer?
Another concern is with the alarm double flash, and horn beep upon alarm set. The doors and oddities compartment lock properly. I have heard that this can be a convertible top sensor problem. Yuk! Where do you start troubleshooting overly sensitive sensors? Is it worth the bother? Is the alarm working properly even though I get the unlocked compartment, sunroof problem,... indicator?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Hi Thorn: Congratulations - a nice addition to your stable!
You will not be able to reset your airbag light unless you have the right electronic equipment. It is also a good idea to have the dealer read the error code - then you know at least what is wrong and how to fix it. Only then can you be sure the airbags are (will be) working properly when you need them.

the only reset is using the $10,000 laptop computer ....Porsche really does not want you working on their Boxster . Resale value for Boxsters is beginning to make 928 depreciation look GOOD ! Two weeks ago I watched a bunch of them sell at wholesale auction for 18-22 K the S holding higher but by the time the 40 th Boxster crossed the block they were getting rather soft .....far too many coming off lease .

David, The Boxster forum is weak.
They only get a few posts a day. Many questions go unanswered.
Most of the posts are nontechnical.
Pretty sad compared to the 928 forum. Hope it changes. Boxsters are cool little cars. I'm suprised that there aren't more tweakers driving Boxsters or they hang out at another forum???????
