Scully -

I know that 2/3's of what he says is true of the pre-86.5 EURO's...but not sure about the 87-on...as far as power and 'quickness'.

BUT - SHORTER WHEELBASE?!?!? NOT!

Scully,
I've got a Euro spec 87S4,(but RHD).It's identical to the US spec except for only 1 side indicator light per side (not 2 as per US spec.
HP is about 10HP higher tha US spec. Also some Euro models do not run catalytic converter.
Shorter wheelbase? The guy does'nt know what he's talking about...infact the overall length, NOT wheelbase, is slightly longer due mainly to redesighned front and rear bumpers.
Don't forget all 928s are made in Germany so I'd say US or Euro makes no difference just make sure its a good car.

Jim:

How do you get the impression that your car has 10 hp more than US models? Officially, Euro models had 320HP/DIN, and the US models had 316HP, which I believe was measured by the SAE standard. They are essentially the same engines, just the power is measured differently.

From '87 on, Porsche generally tried to offer the same engines for the whole world. They were designed to have the same power output with or without cat.

You know better than believing a car salesman, don't you? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

If this car was an "S" model (not S4) he'd have a point on the power. The wheelbase difference is BS. I would have responded with "Oh, really?"

Every time I read the "Oh, really?" I smile. Its so true, and I realize how much I've used the line. Like when a "Porsche expert" tried to assert that only the "late models ones with round bumpers" had interference engines.

According to the manuals the 1987 was the first year they tried to standardize the car worldwide. However, according to the below the AUS 928 actually had less HP.

I think the only difference in the German version vs the US would the sidemarker lights.

Interesting that the Australian model uses different octane fuel than the rest. Jerry, does that "1.)" symbol next to the RoW mean something different than the "+" sign next to the others?

Jerry:

There are lots more differences between US and European models than the side markers. But many are not so obvious. One thing Euros don't have is the seat belt and key-in-the-ignition alarm that drives me crazy (I always buckle up, but sometimes after I drive out of the garage). Lots more little things, including the tail light lenses are different!
