What I like best about the blue one is that it neither has the side markers nor the side mouldings. That's the 928 at it's best.

Now, if that one was cobalt blue metallic...

I also hate body cladding. That blue ones still has the lower-body cladding that should be removed. Here are so cobalt ones. [IMG]http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1783610&a=13995642&p=56501869&Sequence=0[/I MG]

Here's a picture of the panzer in 'iris blue'. Berr in mind this is the before picture, I'll post the after picture in a few months!

You'll also notice the difference in the level of sunlight in the picture. Scotland just can't compete with sunny california in that area! we do have power though!

Exclamation

I changed colors on my '78 from Petrol Blue to Guards Red. I've painted hundreds of cars, but wouldn't do a color change for anyone. It is a very labor intensive procedure. I pulled doors, hood, bumpers and hatch, and had to paint everything inside and out. I never liked the OEM color, and I had driven the car 100,000 plus, so I figured it was due for something new and different. I do love red, and I am glad I did it. But it was MY time and money. If you are actually going to strip the car (remove all existing paint) as I did, it's smarter to buy the right car. I used Glasruit single stage, but went ahead and clear-coated the single stage. I mainly did this because I block-sanded the car sevral timed between color-coats. Makes for a very straight car. Red turns pink as it oxidizes. The clear stops that. All single stage finishes (no clearcoat) will oxidize with time.

I guess what I'm saying is worry about the quality of preparation and the execution of the work. Going wacky with color changes or stripes will likely result in a case of diminishing returns. It's easy to drop $3-4,000 here in the Midwest for a decent quality complete paint without ever thinking of stripping or a color change.

Good luck!

Cool

Hi Kent

Thanks for the info, its good to hear from someone who has actually done a colour change for real. I have decided (and your comments have confirmed it) to stick with the origional Iris Blue. Which I like, so its no hardship.

But I am going to Add some fairly serious stripes to perk it up a bit! Not sure whether to do this with paint or vinyl.

Here is my current favourite scheme. The picture has been hacked around in photoshop and is a very rough work in progress. Any comments welcome! I am going to be getting some black 18" wheels so the proportions in the pic are fairly right.

You are right about the cost. For the new quarter panels, strip and paint its getting close to $5000 (and another $2500 for wheels and tyres!). I think i'll be eating beans for a while!

Cheers

That certainly is a unique paint scheme Dave. If that's the look you're after I say go for it. Just keep in mind that any radical scheme will reduce the market value, and probably make it more difficult to sell down the road.

Good luck and keep us informed on your progress.

IMHO if you are looking for a bit of a change, keep the car the original color and change stripe colors, size and position as your mood changes. Use vinyl graphics! So many colors, designed to any size or shape, 2 color, 3, 4, 5, shadowed, contoured, outlines... it's endless. And you can change them whenever you want and the price is right. You can go to any good graphic shop that makes signs and most also do cars.

I have done lots of race cars for different series, and since I work out of a Porsche independent, our street customers see these designs and have decided they like some pizzazz now and then. Stripes, paint splats, cartoon characters, tehno look, (and now huge American flags from front headlight draped to drivers door).... We have fun with DE events and change the look every time.

It can stay on looking great for a few years, or take it off with a hair dryer tomorrow.

Take a chance, try something new if you don't like it, peel it off.
