Default SEAT SWITCH Weirdness ... Electrical Help Needed

One of my cars has the common seat switch issues. I cut the wire in the middle. When I test at the supply lead, the switch delivers 12V in both directions (backrest forward/back). When I supply a clean 12V signal to the motor side it will move freely fwd/back as I reverse polarity. However when I attach supply to motor it will not budge. What am I missing? Amps? A weak wire?

H - sounds like high contact resistance either in the switch or at some other connection... See if the voltage droops after the switch or before the swicth while you are trying to drive the motor..

When you are supplying the power to the switch and the motor runs, can you check the power draw (amps)? It could be that you have voltage to the switch but not enough amps to drive the motor. If this is the case you have a bad connection or a bad wire between the power source and the cut you made.

I have cleaned all of mine at least once. Since I bought some switch plates complete, I now have some spare switches. As others have suggested, open them inside a plastic bag to ensure no springy bits get lost - although I didnt have any trouble in this area. Just prise the sides apart enough to release the top rocker pivots gently, and you should be ok.
