If it refers to something deeper, then by all means, this is a wake-up call. You have been gifted. Glad you are OK.

Its really important to keep it all in perspective..... In High School (1985)I rolled over my parents Audi 5000 one night onto a golf course taking out a fire hydrant in the process. On board were my brother and also my best friend. My brother barely made it out of ICU with a skull fracture and fortunately he made a full recovery. My best friend wasn't so lucky. He didn't have a seatbelt on, got ejected from the car and didn't make it through surgery. You can't even fathom what it was like looking for him in the pitch black in a field with a geiser coming from the hydrant. I still have scars on my hands from the shattered side window glass that cut me as pulled my brother from the mangled wreck. I learned a very hard lesson that day at the age of 17. No racing involved, I just enjoyed driving quickly. I figured what the heck, there aren't any other cars around. I didn't have any prior record or tickets but this went to the district attorney who pressed charges. I got lucky because I was a minor, but Ventura County in CA is known to be tough. I did alot of community service at the local hospital for months and lost my license for 6 months. I lost alot more that day than just a car and my license. My point is that apart from the loss of your license (I suspect to/from work will still be allowed), you haven't any idea just how bad things really could have been. Trust me. I'm sure you can imagine it and surely are glad things weren't worse, I'm just here to tell you how bad it might have been. You're worrying about losing insurance and a license, not negligence and manslaughter charges that might put you behind bars. Everyone is still alive and healthy. You should be celebrating that you've learned an important lesson in life with very little to pay for it. I never push the limits of my car when I have passengers on board and I never push far beyond the posted speed limit when there are other cars/people nearby. ie - no super fast passing by other cars on the freeway unless I have at least one buffer lane in between. Sorry your car is wrecked but just be glad your life isn't wrecked. I know you have some perspective based on your comments but perhaps considering what happened to me will help you to realize just how lucky you and your passengers really were that day. All the best.

Barry-
So sorry about the car. But like everyone else has said, the good news is nobody was hurt. Yes, I believe these kind of incidents are "wake up calls". They serve to keep us in check with reality. And they suck because they cause anxiety attacks and usually cost lots of money!!!!

Now as for the car I was expecting something much, much worse. Looks completely fixable. In 1985 I smashed my 924 up to the windshield - the engine ended up under the car somehow. (be nice everyone, remember those cars were new then) Anyways, it was considered "totaled" but with a little help from PCA and a willing paint shop (ok, and some $$) we were up and rolling again in 5-6 months. Don't you dare "give up" on your 928!!!!

any accident you walk away from is a good one

I binned my Honda RC51 (superbike) in Spokane last year (at SRP - Spokane Raceway Park, nice roadcourse, not much runoff tho). collapsed a lung and shattered every rib on the right side. I was in the hospital for a week and on morphine for almost a month. it still hurts some and it has been 10 months.

now I'm selling the bike (fully repaired) and planning on a nice '87 S4 5spd. Maybe I'll buy a bolt-in cage. I'm definately ready to move back to sportscars... if my stock portfolio would just move along a little faster!

Welcome fraggle.

Just as long as you buy one that isn't as beat up as you are, you should be fine .

Looking at the pictures really gave me a lump in my throat. Not because of the damage (which is painful to look at in itself) but because I have the same passion for my 951. It truly is more than just transportation for me. I really hope you don't let this take you out of the Porsche family.

Not to worry, nothing will keep me from 928s. Too much love and time into this car to give up on it now! I'm looking at getting another 928 and fixing mine, among a few other options. Of course, there have been comments like, "you need to just sell that car, its nothing but trouble." I'm hoping to be back in the drivers seat within a month. Stay tuned for the legal stuff, insurance payout, and where the money goes. Thank you all for the kind words and support, it does mean a lot when I hear "get rid of it" everyday.

This brings memories from my black ice incident Friday 13:th in december. My 944S2 was wrecked and I really miss the Porsche feeling.

When I was a young dumb-***, as opposed to the older dumb-*** I am now I spun my 68 Chevelle SS 396 convertible muscle car and went through someone's front yard at about 70mph.

The N-50 rear tires turned into "weapons of grass destruction". I took out one of those Iron lawn jockeys that holds a lamp, bounced through a drainage ditch and back on the road and kept on going.

That scare changed my driving habits for the better without any injury to me. The lawn jockey was D.O.A. though I've said it before, if I owned the 928 when I was young, I probably would have died in the car.

As someone who appreciates the 928 greatly, I hate to see these cars disappear into parts cars. I hope that anytime one of these cars is wrecked, the owner will take the extra effort and go to the extreme to rebuild the car and keep it on the road.

Greg
