Crest Paint Question

Rob,
I used ceramic paint, and a very small brush, see: <a href="http://www.marabu-creative.com/" target="_blank">http://www.marabu-creative.com/</a>
After painting and min. 4 hours drying time to be baked in an oven in 30 minutes at 170 degree C (335 degree F)
After this I clear coated the whole cap surface (Spray-can)
The result:
That's is extremely good - The ceramic paint looks like the original enamel
I used the following colors: Metallic Gold 784 (Gold), Karminrot 032 (Carmine red) , Schwarz 173 (Black)

I went the same route as Chucker, then sprayed the crest with a couple light coats of clearcoat:

Randy - yer killing me here. I'm gonna lay awake all night now. Compared to your motor mine looks like it belongs on a John Deere.
You need to post a warning with pictures like that - Caution, view at your own risk, may cause OCD and result in drained bank accounts...
Outstanding. So are the runners and airbox painted or polished? I know you probably posted details before, but I just can't bring myself to start searching, for fear I'll be sucked further into this...

I have it on good authority that Randy's engine does not really look like that. After a carefull investigation, I have discoverd that this is his actual engine bay:

BTW, Randy, thanks for the paint info. I went with Testor's Dark Red #1104. I am painting a set of wheel centers - so far, so good. I'll post my results when I'm done. Unless they look like sh*t!

But, on the other hand, you gotta give me props for my abilities with Photoshop
.
Boyce - steamcleaning should help, being careful around the electrical connections - but for detail work the intake must be removed (plus a whole bunch of other stuff).

Hi Sharks,
I was inspired by Tony’s work to paint my hubcap crests. I am really happy with the results. See my write-up, and picture links below.
I have had trouble with links from the yahoo site. So please let me know if this works for you.
Thom’s Wheel Crest/Hubcap Painting Methods:
1. Pull hubcaps
2. Remove all paint with lacquer thinner
3. If necessary, polish with fine sandpaper
4. Polish with Mother’s Mag and Aluminum Polish
5. Clean with wax and grease remover
6. Paint gold areas with enamel Testor Paint Pen
7. Dry with heat gun
8. Re-paint gold
9. Paint gloss black with Testor Paint Pen
10. Use exacto knife or dental pick to remove excess black paint from gold
11. Paint gloss red with Testor Paint Pen
12. Use exacto knife or dental pick to remove excess red paint from gold
13. Dry with heat gun
14. Re-paint black
15. Use exacto knife or dental pick to remove excess black paint from gold
16. Repaint red
17. Use exacto knife or dental pick to remove excess red paint from gold
18. Dry with heat gun
19. If necessary, touch-up paint with tiny paint brush, toothpick or exacto knife
20. Dry with heat gun
21. Coat hubcaps with clear enamel or lacquer
Notes:
I departed from the paint scheme of the standard hood crest. To me it looks better to paint the raised lettering and center shield lines black.
