Rear Wheel Bearing Service Procedures???
Hi Sharks:
My rear wheel bearings were replaced, cv boots replaced, cv joints regreased about 30kmiles ago. I have seen the recommendation to retorque the bearing retainer on Greg Nichol's site. I think it should be a long time before I need to regrease the cv joints. Is there any other service recommended such as REGREASING the rear wheel bearing???

Steve's correct, the rear wheel bearings are a sealed unit, factory lubed, and cannot be greased. I just replaced both of mine on my 87 A/T. It was recommended I re-torque the axle nut to 332# after driving the car about a 100 miles.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the good word. I really didn't want to go there anyhow. Hopefully, I won't need to retrace that mechanic's steps.
Hi John,
Just got your reply. Thanks for the heads up. That is the procedure listed on Greg's site that I previously mentioned. But, I did not know about the 100 mile service. I am gonna' stick some anti-squeal pads back there. So, maybe I should torque the heck outa' that retainer too. I don't think my torque wrench goes that high.

When I did my axles, I rented a large torque wrench from one of the local shops for 20.00, flat rate, and applied the correct torque. I know its a high torque, but called for. I've talked to guys who have used cheater bars, but for a few rental bucks, you can get it exact. I also put a little thread locker on the threads before I torqued the nuts.
When I reassembled the backing plates, the calibers, etc., I applied a little thread locker (loctite) to each bolt and torqued them to factory specs.
