But in case you want some professional help, Curry's is a decent shop, although I probably won't use them again... but that's because they've cancelled too many appointments with me. There are some things you just need to have checked before you get started and others have identified them. The first thing I did with the 87 was to have the TB/WP replaced, all belts and hoses. I have gone through the vacuum system and my HVAC works perfectly. I just recently replaced my rotors and pads, and I have pretty much found all of the electrical gremlins.
Although my 86.5 was serviced at a small Porsche shop for 12 years, the owners were always telling me I needed to learn how to do more of my own work. Since I had my garage built, I've done just that. Most jobs are not difficult, you just have to pay really close attention to what you're doing, take lots of digital photos and remember... you're working with aluminum. Get a good torque wrench, a good multimeter, a Mytivac and get good hand tools - or know somebody who has good tools; get the WSM on CD or hardcopy, or both!
Last but not least...when you get to the area, let us know where you are.
