Arrow No 'Y' Connector?

I've been trying to track down and eliminate gas smell.
I read that cracked 'Y' connectors are common areas of fume leaks and since I just bought the car in Dec., I'm still taking care of the "little things".

So I ordered a 'Y' connector without checking the one already on my car, took the fender shield off and guess what? No 'Y' connector. My charcoal canister/hose config. doesn't look anything like the pictures that I've seen. I have a canister and three hoses that feed through the wall.
I have yet to follow them to see where they go, but for now, what's up with this? I have an early car, #148 - maybe - well, no maybe's about it - it's different.

Anyone?

Karen,

I had a similar issue, broken Y connector, but no gas odor.... PO had re-routed the vent line to the windshield washer tank.

Here is link to the htread I started when I found the broke Y conmnector.

According to PET the Y-connector wasn't added till the 80 MY. I guess maybe one of your hoses could be bad that go to the canister. Good luck on your investigation.

Hi Karen:

Lots of little things are different on the early cars, so I hope you get some answers from people who have a 928 of similar vintage as yours.

If you don't get any anwers here, my suggestion is to PM SharkSkin - he has a 78 and has done extensive mechanical restoration work on it. He is very knowledgable and helpful, and might know the answer to your question.

Best of luck!!!
