Default "Plink!" My driver side mirror commited suicide on the American Legion Bridge!

You heard it here first.

Breaking headline news.....

Michael and Lisa, owners of a 1988 928 S4, while traveling north out of Virginia heading across the American Legion Bridge witnessed something that to this moment still shocks and horifies them. It was a quiet friday afternoon and traffic was barely moving. Although equiped with AC but not functional at that time, the two were forced to roll the windows down and open the sunroof. It was then that they heard it "Plink!" that is how they described it, "Plink! The two looked up and this is where the witnessed it. The driver side rearview mirror had jumped off. Less than a second later they heard the CRASH! as it hit the ground, that was it. The mirror was dead. The two said that they tried to look back and see it but they could only hear the sounds of the car behind them running it over not once but 2 times! Although it has been a few days the two still hear the plink and crash like it had just happened.

We will privide updates to this amazing story as we learn more. Until then back to your regular scheduled programming.

Anyone have a spare they can send our way to put an end the grief and suffering? Any donations will gladly be accepted.

Michael

Sorry to hear that Michael - I'm hoping it was just the mirror itself and not the whole assembly? If so, i would bet the heat caused the plastic to expand just enough to allow the mirror to slip out. Looks like the replacement will set you back $84.46 from 928 Specialists - part #944.731.035.02.

Bill, it was just the glass, the same thing happened a few years ago with my 944. The glass just fell out. As you mentioned I think that the adhesive was just old/hot and just gave up. I need to go thru my pile of stuffs and see if I have another. I think that I have the passenger side (convex) mirror but not the driver side.

Malcom,

I can paypal you money or send a check or whatever. What do you want for it?

The passenger mirror will fit, upside down. And then you'll have a convex on both sides. Desirable, imo.

I think its a cover-up!

Its just too convenient how all the evidence was destroyed by a second vehicle after they pushed it....

Mine did the same thing, I need the glass for the driver side too. After michaelathome is taken care of, I'd like to buy one from some one that still has one. I feel blind without the mirror, so I bought a sunvisor mirror from walmart, took it from the frame and it fit right in for a temp. fix with super glue. I'm ready to make it right again.

Malcolm, Thanks again for the help. Payment sent.

Also thanks for the offer George. Maybe you can hook up Robert, another grief stricken witness to another untimely mirror death.

Hey George, how much for your drivers side glass only? Is super glue good enough to remount the replacement glass? It's worked ok for my temp fix, but don't want to take a chance with the replacement.
