Morning road trip – unexpected results!

I was playing around with an STI limited on my way home from the allstar game in San Fransisco last week, and he kept up pretty good, but I was pulling away, and when I would get above 120 I would pull pretty hard. I was in my 996 which is a freeway monster. Everytime I take the 996 on the highway I end up going way to fast. The car is just soooooo smooth, and effortless. Last weekend I took it up skyline blvd. with 2 of my friends in a mini cooper S and a WRX. When we were passing cars on highway 1, I would be hitting about 150mph, and the fasted speeds that they saw were 115mph. I have had some good runs in my 928, because of all the low end power. Everytime I think about selling the 928, I go drie it and remember that I can never sell it, because it is soo much fun and it gets more looks than the 996.

Good one Lane,
Like you I don’t think I was ever more impressed with my car than that morning. Speedo was still climbing when I started edging away from the STI. When he finally backed off I swear my car had a good amount of top end left.
But again with the STI’s higher top end I’m sure I would have topped out (at redline) and the Subaru would’ve eventually reeled me in and passed me.
I think my saving grace was that at that particular part of Interstate 15 it has long sweeping left & right turns (not a true strait line) – this meant that neither of us could really reach our top ends. Again running above 80mph the advantage goes to the 928.
Even an old one like mine.
