Dear Sundance,
I'm writing as a documentary, film, and auto enthusiast. Recently, I was made aware of a documentary that one of my fellow 928 enthusiasts Lewis Johnsons was working on. The film "Quest for Risky Business 928" is a documentary that chronicles his search for the 5 Porsche 928's used in the filming of "Risky Business". He would like to take this film to the Sundance Film Festival and I hope that you can graciously consider the film to be presented there.
Risky Business as you know was probably not the most critically acclaimed movie of it's time, but most certainly was one of the most popular movies ever made for us Gen Xers. It established and catapulted Tom Cruise to Superstardom and made the words "Porsche, there is no substitute" one of the most popular catch phrases in movie history. Also made famous was one of the best built, best engineered automobiles in history. The Porsche 928. Who could ever forget the car going into Lake Michigan and the next day the shop mechanic asks "Who's the U-Boat Commander?" As he opens the door lake water/fish bellow out onto the shop floor! Classic.
The Porsche 928 was conceived in the 1970's without the use of computer aided design, virtually hand built from 1977-1995, and was one of the most exclusive and prestigious automobiles of it's time. Lewis has chronicled his search for one of the most popular cars of its time in one of the most popular movies of it's time in his documentary.
Thanks so much for taking the time to consider this movie to be part of your fantastic event!
Regards,
Chuck Schreiber

Thanks to all that have submitted their requests to Sundance. Lewis Johnsen will truly appreciate our efforts if the film makes it this January.
Is there anybody who lives in or near the Denver,CO area that can help with a small problem. Lewis is recording exhaust sounds for the documentary and needs a stock exhaust setup to properly record the 928 rumble (No....the RMB cannot be used..LOL!). Here's an e-mail Lewis sent to me today:
Andy,
I need help finding a local 928 owner. I need to find someone in the Denver, Colorado area that has a 1978 thru 1982 928 with the stock exhaust system. The RB car has a cheapo replacement on it so I cant use it. I want to include a segment in the film about how the sound was created for the RB movie and show everyone where the leak was in the middle muffler that created the louder raspy sound that was used. Can you help? Do you know of anyone in Colorado that wants the bottom of their car to be in a movie?
Lewis
Please contact me if you live in the greater Denver,Colorado area and own a 928 with a stock exhaust system. I will then put you in touch directly with Lewis. You can also e-mail me at: rennsport@sympatico.ca
Thanks!

There's several Denver-area folks on here. Perhaps one with an OB ('old bugger') model can assist.
If you don't get a response over the weekend, add another post to this thread on Monday to 'bump' it back up to the first page - or - create a new topic with details in the title.

I just learned this weekend that the documentary film "Quest for Risky Business" by Lewis Johnsen of Denver.CO did not make it to the finals for the Sundance Film Festival of 2008.
Lewis would like to thank all of you that wrote into the Institute casting your vote for the film. Although Lewis will still try to get the film aired on another documentary channel, the fight isn't over and the film should eventually be available for all to watch.
I will keep you all posted on future developments.

Well, I saw it. Judging from what I saw, it's a 15-minute story stuffed into two hours. There is so much extraneous and uninteresting detail that it was almost unwatchable to me.
An interview with a production assistant who bought Tom Cruise's sunglasses. A half hour long interview with two sons of the guy who owned the 928 at the beginning of production but then sold it to someone else in which they repeat themselves many times. Interviews with both sides of a divorced couple who owned it later. There is not a lot of "quest" for the car, just a lot of interviews and then he hires a private detective to find the car. Next thing you know, it's in his garage without him even going to get it or speaking to the previous owner. There is some cool stuff, but not much.
