Post Back to Our Original Programming

Well, it may be awhile (if ever) for the most recent discussion threads to be recreated from the Rennlist backup databases.

In the meantime, if a thread crashed before some particular issue had yet to be resolved, feel free to post a new Topic and we'll try to pick up where we left off.

Sorry for the inconvenience - I'm sure John D. will be in scramble mode for a few days trying to recover lost data.

Cool

Randy,

Thanks for the update. Reposting of critical issues is a good way to move forward. We all really appreciate what you, John D., and any moderators, webmeisters, etc. do. It really helps us to keep our cars alive so that we continue to support our sponsers. I imagine that the sponsers would see fewer survivors and business without Rennlist.

That said, I would rather see an emphasis on abscence of down time over recovery of recent threads. Fix the recurring problems first. They have become a PITA. With my recent 5 month long ordeal of a recovery from valve damage, the ability to interface with people online has really helped. And, I try to help others out in return.

I hear ya brother - I'm sure John D. wants the same things you and the rest of us do, namely to have 100% uptime with no data losses - all on a meager budget with no tech support employees other than himself.

I give him a lot of credit for creating this whole Rennlist thing as a one-man-show. The reliability will come as he can afford to implement upgrades to the system.

Folks like you are what make Rennlist forums a great place for sharing information Thom. Your quality participation is constantly appreciated.

BTW... Anyone know Flying In A Blue Dream, by Joe Satrianni? It Kinda' reminds me of taking the luxury sports cruisin' 928 through the mountains. A dream come true!

I just wanted to take a moment to echo Randy's comment - as he is absolutely on target - as it's folks like you, Thom - who are "Rennlist"...

More, however, it is folks like Randy, and a few other List Moderators, who make Rennlist possible at all. So, please don't thank me- thank Randy and the others who donate their time to make Rennlist the premier Porsche Site on the Internet. Thanks, Randy... As well – yes, it’s folks like you who contribute to Rennlist daily and take a moment to help out your fellow Porsche enthusiasts, who are indeed, “Rennlist”….

Above that, you mentioned that you wished Rennlist were on-line 100% of the time.. Yup - it's something I'd like to see as well, and I'm striving towards that goal. In the meantime, please understand that there are 12 servers, 603 sites contained in those servers, over 4TB of disk space - and 85,000 enthusiasts daily which comprise "Rennlist".. For all that - there is "1" of me, as everything runs off my servers in my office. While the odds are a little "skewed", I do try to keep Rennlist "up" and "on-line" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while doing my real job. So, please consider this an open invitation that if you have any difficulties at all accessing any part of Rennlist - please e-mail me directly at johnd@rennlist.com

In the meantime - enjoy the Rennlist site - and thank Randy for helping make all this happen.. I know I appreciate his efforts!!!

Randy V./John D.,
The Drive REALLY crashed? Bummer...
But, my god man! Are you telling me WE aren't up to RAID data striping, disk duplexing, mirroring, striping with parity?
No level 5? The Dark Ages are upon us...
Really though if the list is that tight do you need some of us to do Back ups? We know you actually have some form of life other than the thankless blood sucking site... er... don't you? Field the question and maybe we can do a rotation on backup duty.
And yeah, how in the world were those RED FACES taking over some (CAPS) but not all of the letter O's. Did we have more than a crash ?
We do appreciate the effort, thanx loads!
later, Keep em' rolling, May the packet switchers and routers be with you.
