Post Airlock

Hi guys,i've just put a new radiator and thermostat on my 89 GT,i put the new rad on first and changend the anti freeze to,anti freeze mix is 50/50 the car ran fine temp gauge was on the 80 mark, now i've put a new thermostat in with the new seal in front of the stat and a new rubber colar at the back of the stat, now the car runs at 90 mark, have i got an airlock or is the new stat faulty, the bottom rad hose is cold until the stat opens then warms up once open, both fans come on,i've also got the cooling flaps open fully and the temp gauge still stays on the 90 mark, car does not heat up really fast but builds up then just stays at the 90 or slightly above this, and the weather isnt hot here at the moment in the uk so i dread what the car would be like in the summer.

You may have some trapped air in the system. Did you squeeze (burp) the lower and upper hoses as you filled the overflow reservoir?

Also, did you install the thermostat correctly? Pointed side towards the radiator (temp sensor torwards the engine), and with the little hole at the 12:00 position?

Lastly, was the old thermostat a low temp (75 degrees C.) version, and if so - did you replace it with a regular (83 degree C.) unit?

The hole (if there is one, and there should be) is usually 90 degrees from the "bar". Also, that "bar" should be facing the radiator.

Lastly, I hope you bought it from "Porsche" and not from 'porshe'. ;^) YMMV.

If there is a 'weep' hole, then it matters. If not, then maybe not. YMMV. :^)
