Post Dealer Dilemma

My 86 928S finally went into the shop to have the SUV damage repaired. Since the fan and heater went out at the same time I tied the failure to the impact shock. The dealer spent three hours tracing the problem down to a sensor that shorted behind center console. Since I was on the cell phone talking to the dealer I was not able to get the exact part, however he told me that the part cost over $300. The dealer also told me that he cannot tie the failure to the accident and that I will have to pay for all labor to that point.

Does anybody know what part this could be? Second, is there any recourse to have the insurance pay for this?

The Shark went to the body shop today to have the rear bumper damage repaired. I am going to try and make it to the shop in the morning. I am having Shark withdraw being without it for almost a week now.
