The tube is positioned next to the evapoator to read the temp.

What Roger said... The tube is sealed at the evaporator end, and is filled with a silicone fluid that gets biigger when it gets warmer. The expanding fluid operates the switch inside that allows current to flow to the compressor clutch. Broken or leaking cap tube means no compressor run. It's really a very simple device.

Gaz,
I also have a VX, proton yellow, 2002. Please let us know how the supercharging goes. It is popular on 928's and it would be of some interest, besides just to me, to see another car's outcome.
Welcome

Roger--

My arthritis meds kick in every once in a while, before the halucinogenics fade out, and the result is some long blathring rambling discourse that might make sense to others with the same afflictions. Like this one...

In your garage, driveway, closest parking lot where the problem started..... just pop the hood, Diagnosis started.... anywhere is fine, really... I do not suggest the middle of a busy intersection... that could be bad.
