Default Question About Daytona Event In November

Pardon my ignorance BUT, is the 928 event scheduled for November in Daytona
in conjunction with the Rennfest Reunion Event of November 2-4 ?? If not,
does anyone know the exact dates ?? Also, is there a particular hotel where most of the 928ers will be staying? Any info greatly appreciated.

Repost wrong date on my end!

Hello Fla 928ers!

Mark your calendars now for Nov. 2-4 for Sharks at Daytona Rennsport Reunion! Long name, but will be an incredible event. Instead of the PCA races held mid Oct. at Daytona, we are planning our fall 928 gathering around the Rennsport Reunion III at Daytona. Anyone wanting to go to the PCA races that is still open for a get together, just our more serious effort will be Rennsport. For those who don't know, Rennsport is a worldwide Porsche gathering put on by Porsche every three years. The 1st one was at Lime Rock in 2001 & 2004 was at Daytona. 2007 was supposed to go to California, but Porsche was so impressed with the results at Daytona, they decided to have this one here in 2007 too. If it goes great again, it might just become a permanent fixture here in the Sunshine State! That would be awesome for us!

If you went in 2004, its almost like dying & going to Porsche Heaven! If you can think of ANY famous Porsche car or Porsche race car driver, you'll see it at Rennsport, I promise you. To see the very 1st Porsche that won at LeMans on the track at the same time as the last Porsche to win at LeMans, that's a treat. Someone told me that for Rennsport Reunion II, that all but a few of the 40+ known Martini race cars were there! For your three day ticket, its pretty much all areas open. You can walk around the garages, up close to the cars, talk to the drivers and owners, truly amazing! I spent about 30 minutes in the garages talking to a driver who raced one of the famous 908 Martini Porsches back in the early 70s! Jerry Seinfeld was just walking around looking at cars like the rest of us. I think I took over 700 digital pics during the 3 days last time. One thing I can tell you about the last Rennsport, THERE WERE NO 928s TO BE FOUND, NONE! Not in any official Porsche displays, not racing, and not even a spectator's car that I saw parked in the infield. I think it was the ONLY model without any representation, except perhaps the 924. That will not happen this time around! We WILL represent!

Two notes about the three day event different from the previous two Rennsports. First, there will be specific car corrals for each type of Porsche for spectators to park in, as it 928s, 944s, 914s, 356s, etc. From the positive attention we 928ers received at our Sharks at Daytona OktoberFast & at the Sebring Shark Shiver, I truly believe that we 928ers made this happen. There were comments at Daytona, from PCA & Daytona Track officials about our gathering of 18 928s & how impressed they were with our commitment & how impressive our sharks looked all parked in the semi circle. Comments that our showing is how it should be, cars parked together with other 928s, not all models simply scattered out in one big corral of cars. At Sebring, we had mention of our Shark Shiver gathering in the last TWO Panorama magazines. Patti Mascone from Pano who interviewed me at Sebring just wrote an article recap of the races & she specifically mentioned our 928s & the 928 racers multiple times, starting in the first paragraph! Her very first sentence in her article titled "The Biggest PCA Club Race Ever" describes the scene at the race of the vendors, racers, etc., ending with ".... and a wide school of 28 sharks slithered into a 928 spectator corral". We are getting noticed and getting very positive attention by PCA ! So, we will have an area specifically for us to park together in spite of this event being wall to wall people & cars!

Secondly, to quote Pano regarding Rennsport, "Porsche is looking for exceptional examples of Porsche production models for display at the Speedway during the event". My understanding of this is that we may have a display of 18 years of 928s, with year by year examples. They did this in 2004, but only with the 911s. So, if you know of someone with a pristine example of a 928, tell them to get out the carnauba wax as its approaching fast. I'm waiting to hear back as to the details of what they are looking for, but last time, the cars were exterior view only, no open hoods or doors.

We already have word that so far, a group of about ten 928ers are planning to travel all the way from Texas to attend. Did you get that?? Texas!! I spoke to Roger Tyson yesterday in Dallas. He is planning to rearrange a trip overseas to his birth land of England, JUST to attend this event here in Florida! Does that sound like he is taking it seriously? So if he can do that, we here in Florida with the same amount of notice have no excuses for not attending! If you need time off work, put in the request now. If we can have 18 at Daytona last year & 28 at Sebring this year simply for PCA races, then we should be able to have 40+ 928s attend easily, no excuses. Let's impress not only PCA & Daytona track officials, how about lets impress the who's who of the Porsche world, including Porsche NA & the factory people too! A ticket for all three days is a measly $60, thats the same price it was three years ago. Get with it Florida Sharkers, this may be a once in a lifetime chance to see Porsche history live & in person! There is no guarantee when or if it will come back to Daytona. Plan now so we can make a 928 Statement!

Looks like my 928 won't do for the race, even if I could attend.

3. CAR ELIGIBILITY
All Racing Porsches. Entries subject to approval by PCNA.

All racing Porsches that appear* similar to a model campaigned by Porsche in the past and present are invited to participate in the Rennsport Reunion II at Daytona International Speedway.
* i.e. cars must use body work that is similar in appearance to that produced and/or run by Porsche Racing. For example a GT3 wing on a 914 is not allowed.
PCA CLUB RACING CARS must meet Club rules and regulations

Maybe you could get an exception since Porsche never campaigned ANY 928 racers. Or am I wrong about that? It would be great to see your car there.

Last year for OktoberFast, we did not attempt to coordinate with a group hotel. As of now, there are no plans to for Rennsport either. There are tons of hotels in Daytona of course, around the track and at the beach. Just about anything you could want. Problem seems to be that some want to be near or on the beach, some just want something close to the track. Within that you can go economy or more luxury too.

If someone with our Fla. group wants to choose a specific hotel & coordinate something for those desiring to all stay at one location, just volunteer & the job is yours. Most certainly any hotel will want your credit card # to reserve a block of rooms for any length of time of course. Some might hold them for a while, but you can bet that they will limited in that capacity, especially as the date draws near.

If you are planning to attend Rennsport & need a hotel, keep in mind, this a WORLD WIDE Porsche event, so you can bet that rooms are already being booked as we talk about this.
