Timing Check on 84 US
Hey I want to check the timing on my 84 and had a few questions for you????
What plug does Porsche call #1
Where do I pick up the timing mark on the balancer? Do I look for the little tab sticking out of the plastic timing belt cover?
I have a dial back light etc. but what is a good base time with premium fuel??

As you sit in the driver's seat, number one cylinder is the right side cylinder closest to the radiator.
The timing mark is found on the front of the engine, as you are facing the front of the car, you'd look down from the driver side (LHD) to the front of the engine.
For M28.19/20 US/Japan 1983 - 1984, ignition timing is 20 degrees before TDC at 3000 RPM (vacuum line disconnected and plugged).

Is there a 20* mark on the balancer............does it show a line on the mark at 3000 rpm like a older Chevy would? I thought it may have the #1 on the passenger side for some reason.
Thanks

It does! that is what I stated.
The timing marks are on the crank dampener at the "front" of the crankshaft.
