Post Boge Shocks Life...how long until next time?

I just replaced the front Boge shocks with the same kind and I was wondering how long will it be until my next replacement is due.

I have replaced the rear shocks about 10K miles ago.

How long for the front and rear as far as good life?

Andrew

When I got our '89 S4 (appx. 59k miles, original Boge struts) I replaced the struts more as a matter of routine than anything else. Result? Couldn't tell the difference. So the 10 year-old, 59k mile struts were still performing like new. Hope this helps.

Question

Did you replace the front and back? Or just the rear?

Usually you can't feel the difference in the rear, which is what I think when I replaced them 10K miles ago.

Both the front and the rear were replaced and I couldn't feel any difference at either end.

I had my standard Boge shocks replaced at about 70k miles on my current '91 S4, and at about 80k mils on my first 928, an '88 S4. In both cases, the car felt "bouncy" on bumps, which I found particularly irritating in fast turns. The new shocks have eliminated this issue, and the cars felt like new afterwards. I estimate the Boge shocks to last 60k miles.

Yes, Boges. I did not want a bone jarring ride. I concluded that if people can safely go 165 mph on the German Autobahn with standard Boge shocks, then these shocks should be adequate for the much slower US street driving as well (I don't take the car to the track). I'm glad I did not go stiffer - the Boges are a good compromise of handling and ride comfort - especially considering the road conditions over here.
