subsonic, When I replaced my fuel pump the caps (rubber boots)for the fuel pump were also shot. I used 90* boots that were left over from a spark plug kit when I rebuilt the engine on my 1955 Chris Craft. They were a perfect fit. If you elect to do this they can be purchased from any auto parts store. Or I can just send you a few no charge. That way the next time you have to address that area of the fuel pump it's just a simple boot removal instead of trying to cut out the heat tape. And I think that parting out the car would be a shame but you would make more money, if you have the time to do it. Ask Dozman about it and I think that he will tell you that you can do well with a parted out 928.

Subsonic,
Let me throw a couple things in your direction:
First, by the VIN you posted the car is indead an '81 Euro "S" as posted the "BS" makes it an '81 but the following "84" makes it an "S" model which would have the 300hp 4.7L engine.
If it were a non "S" it would have "82" and would be equipped w/4.5 230hp
So this is a point in the car's favor as you would have to start with a 85+ 32V motor in a US version to get similar power.
Second, find the engine number; top front of the block on a machined pad (likely grease covered) slightly toward the pass. side of the car. You are looking for M28/12 which would indicate the "S" motor for auto trans.
You found the extra set of wires that would be used for the second pump; again a good thing it's only got one. The 2 pump thing is a bit of a mystery; my '79 is supposed to have 2 with one in the wheelwell, but has only 1 in the normal spot and my '83 Euro S is supposed to have 2 but has one just as yours-one less part to break!
You mentioned running cars in the $3000 dollar range; I'd have to think that in this price range you are looking at something similar to what you have, I'd see if you can get it to run and go from there, there are a few advantages to the CIS equipped car in that F.I. is pretty problem free once it's all sorted and running plus there's no brains to fry and the Euro cars are slightly lighter than the US versions.

Thanks much Jim! I'm glad that you read through the string. I would bet that not many Euro S's made their way to the U.S. I am rapidly gaining renewed interest in the car.
The local import parts store quoted me $275.00 for a new pump today. I plan on shopping around some more for a better deal. The #1 spark plug wire is also pulled out of the boot on the distributer end and needs replacement. That will get me to the broken radiator tank!
I saw an '82 928 in the Raleigh paper today for $3000 OBO. Runs good, looks good it says.
There is also an '85 for $5000.
Thanks again for the good news!

If you go to look at these others really look hard, what I found when I bought my '79 (2nd 928)
was that even cars at twice the price that looked far nicer than the one I bought still had enough paint and interior flaws that some major money would have to be spent to bring them up to snuff.
So any way I went I was looking at a repaint and some interior updates in the future, so I went with the slightly uglier but beter mantained car with the 5spd, recent clutch and timing belt and CIS injection Old Bugger status which is what I really wanted in the 1st place.

????
Is the Euro, S2 -other than engine/big HP, rear fog and front markers mounted aft of the front fenderwells- any different than say a sHARk destined for the U.S.
I've heard/read varying stories on this topic.
1. The 82'Weissach mit der front rear spoiler und 16" flats (dish) wheels was the prototype S2.
2. That you could get the spoilers prior to 82' as an option which I guess would make the
'optioned' sHARk the prototypical S2.

John,
The Euro "S" with the 300HP and spoilers/flats was available starting with the 1980 MY; non "S" Euros were also available thru '82 but I'm not sure what the spoiler/wheel combos were on the non "S".
The "S" models also included the wider vented rotors up front, a 2.75 rear ratio and less emmission equipment. They were also a bit lighter which seems mainly due to less sound deadning materials.
The different markers, rear fog light, adjustable 8" H4 headlights and inclusion of fog and driving lights were down-graded for US spec cars.
From the Euros that made it here it would seem that they are less likely to have a sunroof and more likely to have the full leather interior.

H4's, no sunroof, vinyl interior, rear spoiler seems to be similar to an '89 style (4 mounting holes, about 10" wide) front spoiler comes down low to the ground and may be aftermarket, has rocker panel skirts, aftermarket?

Ok Kblair, heres some info on the '82:
Divorced women with x-husbands car
Driven only a couple of times in 1+ yrs
Dropped insurance, battery dead, jump started and pulled into driveway semi-recently
Red, auto, chocolate interior, sunroof
Engine rebuilt by local exotic car shop, less than 20,000 miles but no real idea how many
unknown tire condition
Sounds lonely and hot!
