sunroof tool for manual closure
Owners manual says it is included in the tool kit. I dont have one but there isnt even a slot in the plastic for one. I have a handle with a hex head on it but my roof uses a tool with a flat head that goes in a slot and is held in place with the screw you remove. Is there more than one tool? Is it kept in the kit at the back?

There isn't a slot in the plastic for that tool. Mine was always loose and I wondered about that, but at a UK 928 get-together at the weekend a guy showed me the 90 S4 he'd bought which still had the plastic bag and gloves for changing a tyre (and the compressor of course), and the winder tool which looked brand new but was in a little plastc bag.
I've never actually used the tool so can't help with how it fits the sunroof mechanism. From memory the tool is like a right-angled screwdriver with a flat blade at one end.

later cars use a flat head adaptor that fits over the end of the seat crank tool, pretty small should probably put it in the glove box... costs about $10-12 IIRC

Is this in relation to your current sunroof woes or are you looking to have the tool permanently? I bought the tool from Rixter and would be happy to send it to you for any short-term needs.

Some tool! I broke the first one trying to get the center screw out of the transmission so that the sunroof could be closed manually. I ended up breaking that transmission, and never got the screw out (even after disassembly with attempted removal in the workshop with a good flathead screwdriver). Could not get the screw out of the replacement transmission that I bought either. Anyway, I keep it in the glove box...

the screwdriver end of the tool is used to remove the center screw from the transmission; the other end of the tool has 2 prongs that fit into the mechanism under the tranny screw, and the round nut on the tool secures those prongs into the transmission. Once secured, the tool essentially works like a handle to manually crank the roof open or closed. If anyone ever got the center tranny screw out, let me know how you did it...

I don't have a picture of it because I need one myself, but they do fit in the plastic took kit. It's not a flush mount but it does fit. I'll see if I can get a pic somewhere.
If anyone has one, I'm up for purchasing it.

if you want to close the roof just spin the black rubber connection joint between the motor and the transmission one way or the other the motor is covered by the headliner pod, pull the rear end down slightly about 1 inch and you will see metal rod that is holding the pod in place, unhook it and slide the pod rearwards

That's how I ended up operating the roof. It frosted me tho, since I'd rather use the tool that was designed for that purpose...

I got mine closed with a wide blade screwdriver tip and a socket wrnch but had a tough time getting the screw out of the motor. I needed to get it closed because it is so dam hot here, thank god my A/C works!!! Thanks for the offer Chicago-land. I am going to pick up a tool some time in the future, I was just curious about it since my car didnt have it.

here it is, or similar. This is actually a 911 kit.
And it fits here.
