Angry Speed and Reference Mark Sensor

So who knows the amount of volts the speed and reference sensor operates on?

-Lately, I've had this problem with a sudden, short miss. It is a complete miss-for about half a second. Startles the hell out of me when it happens!

I had a hunch- a week or so ago, I put new plug wires on the shark. While doing this, I noticed that the connector for the "speed and reference sensor" was looking pretty shabby. The insulation was breaking off, and some wire was exposed. I went to pull it apart to clean it and wrap the wires with electrical tape while I had the MAF sensor pulled out, and the wiring harness-end of the connector basically disintegrated! I broke the metal prongs free of the remaining plastic and inserted them in the sensor side of the connector, insulating them with some rubber cement.

Then the missing started. I pulled it all back apart today, and while the engine was running, I moved the connector back and forth. Sure enough, the engine stalled promptly.

I cut the other end of the connector off and twisted the wires together, wrapping them with electrical tape. A short trip around the block showed the problem was ALMOST fixed...I got one tiny miss going around a corner. I figured a twist connector would probably solve that. Wrong. I took it out tonight, and it was missing just like it was before.

My theory: this sensor operates on very low voltages, and I don't have a good-enough connection...

They are pickup devices so you are correct, low voltage and current.

The min voltage PEAK is 2.5 Volts for the speed sensor and 2.0 volts for the Ref mark sensor. Need to measure the peak voltage of the pulse with a scope.
