john, i think it's either hard acceleration or hard shifts (hard deceleration) that force the driveshaft to bow out in the middle. since day 1 i have lifted my foot ever so slightly during the shift so as not to smash the tranny to pieces prematurely. this might save me some aggravation in the long run. of course, i have no problem with high rpm in top gear, he he.

hey, anyone have an answer yet to the flexplate, collar and pinch clamp removal question while TT still installed? "everyone" thinks this can't be done but i am going to take a shot at it. i can't believe some of the "breakers" or "wrenches" haven't chimed in with their experiences.

John,

What a devious ploy you have there. Got to admit I like it. Lure them in, and then smoke em. Nice!!! Your exhaust note doesn.t give you away, or is it still mellow at 3200 rpm's. Got to try this one ( after I check my preload and adjust for same). <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Shane,
At 3200 you/the driver would notice that the engine was about to get serious, but yeah, still very mellow. If Marvin the Mustang has a set of pipes he/she wouldn't hear you. Besides whoda thunk... that those pansy Porche people even knew what a V-8 looked like.
Snow, I manually upshift when I can to take the rpm load off the engine, usually off ramps and overpasses where the Radar cars hide at the far side in the median. But for sheer underwear changing enjoyment...when a thrashee' gets pissed and tailgates me down the off ramp I have been known to downshift rather harshly -no brakes or brake lights- . As soon as the panic sets in ...back there, and the headlights start wandering I motor away.
I notice under heavy acceleration Pattycakes HARDSHIFTS but I'll attribute that to the shiftpoint mapping in kickdown mode.
This is a must do item on my list and I plan on eyeballing it tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks again for cranking this issue up again

Unhappy

Snow,
Sorry...
Pattycakes is being "REFINISHED, yet again. Third #*^%#!! time!
I was hoping to get her up on a lift, eyeball and test wrench your removal theory as well as examine the pieces for additional clamp bolt...
I'm putting in 10-12 hour days prepping Interstate 20 for hot seal coat and overlay so I don't know when I'll see Pattycakes again let alone tinker on her. The shop is closed on Saturday's, no hope there. And to complicate matters we are short-handed at work, some of my co-workers just "pissed hot" and lost not only their required CDL's but their job's as well!
So those of us remaining are MISSION ESSENTIAL - read that no time off -.
I'm in never never land for the time being and can offer no help. Try posting directly to
Steve C., he is THE TRANSMISSION GUY, I can't remember if he was going to the SITM or not though.
Hang in there. Later,
John S. the guy in the pick-up truck
