Red face Question about lug nut colors?

I just ordered some technology twist 17" replicas for my 88 S4 along with the 993 plastic center caps. I also ordered some used lug nuts and was told they are black and need to be painted. Are black lug nuts typical on newer cars with the turbo twist wheels? If not what color is typical, polished, alloy, what? I am looking to update the look to current standards and can not remember what color the lug nuts are now. Since I need to paint them, I can go with whatever look I please. Opinions are welcome!

To the best of my knowledge, lug nuts on the 928 were always black.

If you want polished ones, you can contact Dan Brindle at dbrindle@kondratyev.com - his son polishes them for relatively little money.

Mine are red like my calipers - yes they were painted at the same time. They are only slightly noticeable - it adds a little since my car is red.

The nuts that came on my car are black, the replacements are black. That said,...

With new lug nuts so inexpensive, I would think twice and then stay away from used lug nuts. New ones are already the right color, an anodized finish that will stand up to the lug wrench. Painr isn't quite as durable.

I still need to get one of those rubber-lined lug sockets from Jim Bailey. Then it will be OK to install my pristine new nuts, purchased to go along with the new wheels that I installed a year ago now.

Hmmmm..

Talking

Just bought all new lug nuts (blk), porsche wheel locks, and porsche soft socket from Devek...
approx $2.95ea for lugs
approx $18.00 for soft socket
approx $45.00 wheel locks

Do not buy used lug nuts, and use a soft socket (be kind to those cool lug nuts). Black is the std color, I wouldn't paint them they are made to be anodized, you could probably have them anodized in a differant color though.

You can find new ones all the time on eBay at a good price (a clever marketing ploy, wouldn't you agree):

I studied that photo real hard. Where are the lug nuts? Headlights, maybe, but no lug nutz.
