Jay, The wife and I would love to make the trip but there is still no ETA as to when the 928 motor project will be finished. I keep getting my hopes up, just to have them dashed.

Hey, Max,
If you and the wife aren't to tall...
I travel light, my son Zack is only taking a fishing rod, toothbrush and a change of skivvey's... . And I have heard from 'reliable' sources on this very site that the rear seats are plenty comfortable with lots of room to stretch out <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />
I can drive REAL FAST if you pay for the tickets and bail, we could be there in no time, really!!!
Seriously, I hope you can make it if not we still might get a mini-shark gathering arranged for the summer...hmmm. Think they'll let us park on the flight deck of the USS San Jacinto, they do have a good sized ramp up to the hanger deck?
Or take that abandoned GT at the shop for a test drive to shARKANSAS.

Hi Jay,

Not too sure if my '81 will be ready by then (in the paint booth with doors off and windows out).

However, I am will check the date with the War Department and see if we can show up in the S4 (The 4-ring Audi variety).

Jay, The shipping company just confirmed that the engine is in route and it looks as if the motor will be delivered May the 28th (next Tuesday).

I should be able to get it back to do all the PM's and have them completed by the end of the second or third week in June. It looks like we will be able to make it to SITO (I still need to reconfirm with wife).

John,

Will Pancake be ready?

Would you want to meet at some point and carvan?

I will be looking through my map prog. to find a good route.

Anyone else in Texas interested in meeting up for the road trip up to SITO, chime in.

Max,
The shop says Pcakes' is ready for pick -up but, I
have been up there three times - this may be the proverbial charm - maybe this time they got it right, or , maybe not... I'll find out tomorrow.
So, what's the scoop on the engine work? Is your computer/ezk going to be happy with it?
Caravan isn't out of the question... a route dependant thing.
I finally broke out the travel atlas, I have a drive but you have a real drive. What is your route plan, i'll look for a spot to join up.

John, your right about the long drive.
At this time I have not yet made any hard plans as to what roads to take, here's just one Idea.

(altered by Max)

We will most like have to get a 6-8 hour jump on you guy to meet up around the big D. The real fun won't start till we hit those Arkansas roads.

The EZK will be ok with the new mods. As it was found that my S4 had PO installed GT cams and it ran real nice before all the other fine work Marc and Jim at DEVEK performed .

I wish I had time to install the L2 DEVEK headers and my own custom pipes before the run.

Jay,

Have you spoken to John McDermott about the outing? He lives in Tulsa and thought he would like to join. BTW I have just checked the Cimarron region PCA schedule and nothing is planned for that weekend so he can't use that as an excuse. 8^)

Max,

I would take Highway 75 North out of Dallas all the way to Tulsa, then head east on 412 to Bentonville AR. Should be quicker with less police. BTW the Oklahoma Highway Patrol seems to like 928's. I've been stopped twice for going a LITTLE over the speed limit and gotten a lot of praise and 2 warnings. 8^)

well, to be up front about okieland and speeding tickets, you can get a speeding ticket up to and including 10 over and simply pay it and it won't make it to your insurance. this is known as an sp-8 or sp-9 classification on the ticket. always argue for that classification in the field if you can. they'll still get their money, you don't get tagged on insurance.

i'm kinda interested in how LITTLE over the limit you were going that warranted a stop. in all honesty, you were probably stopped on pretext just so they could do a little snooping.

don't get me started...

Max,
I'm not against the convergence of paths if it doesn't add a bunch of time and miles to my original plans.
I was thinking of the Tornado Alley run - Life on the Edge -
Midland to Lubbock - 145 miles
Lubbock to Amarillo - 125 miles
Amarillo to O.C. - 260 miles
O.C. to Tulsa - 110 miles
Tulsa to Springdale - 100 miles
Springdale to Eureka Springs - 50 miles
I over estimated the mileage and still came in at
only 790 miles, and if I can knock off 500 miles before Zack wakes up I should be most of the way thru Northern Texas -Oklahoma- before he gets cranky. The way I drive I figure 13 hours, even with stops.

Snowball,

On one I was for doing 78 on an on ramp to Hwy 75 north of Tulsa and on the other I was doing 79 on an on ramp to Hwy 169. The speed limit was 65 on both. I admitted my error and both patrolmen admitted they liked to drive above the speed limit. In Oklahoma the highway patrolmen are better educated and trained than most city police. They don't have quotas or see revenue figures. Actually the money for the tickets they write goes to the county/city rather than the state so there isn't any financial incentives. Did I mention they both knew my son in law who is a policeman? 8^)
