PO had the belt and water pump done - I cannot find any record of a subsequent re-tension. Have to assume it has not been touched since then.

Original job was thorough, done by Dan at Exotic Motorwerks in Phoenix. Replaced cam belt idler & idler bearing, resealed tensioner (rebuild and bleed) & installed a new boot at that time as well.

Think the belt has loosened up? I should have the tensioner tool next week - safe to drive until then (no hi-rev shifts)?

Thanks,
Hawkeyes

Anytime your unsure of the status of your timing belt you are taking a sizable risk by running the car. The stakes are just so high. There is nearly always some adjustment needed after replacing a Timing Belt. You might be OK, but the safe thing to do is park it.

It s is a bit puffy. I use a layer of foam under the leather that gives it this look. One of the reasons the factory leather covers fail is due to the leather being glued directly to the underlying vinyl or in the case of the glove box, a very thin layer of plastic. When the leather shrinks it pulls the vinyl or plastic and the foam under it away from the substrate and very ofter crushes it at the same time.
With foam under the leather, it rides on top and has room to shrink a bit. Incidentally this is the process used by the factory on the late model Porsche dashes and other interior panels.

Rob,
I agree I think it looks better too. I always think the non-airbag dashes look loose around the glove box like its drooped or the gap is too big... even on these where it isn't actualy warped from shrinkage.

This looks better IMO...

Good job trying to come up with a solution.

Hawkeye:

Rob did almost the identical dash work for me; I've been thrilled with it ever since. Enjoy the new feel and congrats on this important restoration step.

Or have the Pod redone to match the wheel. Yeah, that's it.

That looks fantastic and it is the same color that I need done.

Get with some fellow R-listers, the tension check will take just 20-30 minutes and is something you should get done right away.

Thanks Sean. I decided to park the shark until I can do as u suggested.

I didn't try to match every piece as the door panels, roof pillars, rear quarters, console, etc. are still the original leather and a tad darker shade at that. The dash is sooo much nicer to look at without a 'fur' cover or large cracks down the middle.

The black steering wheel picks up the floor mats color as well as other assorted black plastic pieces in the cabin & the existing leather covering feels fantastic.

I'll probably just leave it as is, even though a recover might be more esthetically pleasing.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions!

Is that the 930 wheel? Did you put the crest on or did it come with it?

Congrats bro... looks awesome. I had Robert Budd do my entire interior and Paul Champagne did the steering wheel. They are both fantastic craftsmen. I had the whole interior (including new carpeting) installed by Dan at Exotic Motorwerks and it made a hell of a difference in the car i tell you.
