Improvised fuel line
Determined to have my engine finished for a trip this weekend, I found a badly cracked fuel hose - the return line near the firewall. No stock at the two local Porsche dealers nor at Zims. Special order - $38. No time to get one from the big 3 (IF they stock it). I could not shape a piece of fuel hose into a tight "U" without kinking. Here's a Volkswagen fuel line P/N 037-133-990-2 I found at the local VW parts dept. It had the "U" I needed, the right angle bend was no problem and I cut off the extra length. Perfect fit! About $20.

Thats all right Steve. Did you have to go to a VW house to find or local parts store?
Great tip

Burning Brakes
Do you think there might be a lot of VW parts that can cross over to the 928? Are there any other clever VW parts substitution out there.
Just curious

I've noted a few here and there- there is a component that comes off the intake manifold on 2 valve cars that leads to the brake booster. It has a VW part number. I think the seat belt clips do too.
VW and Porsche have always been close, though not related. My understanding is that most of the people who run VW owners of large blocks of Porsche stock, so they run one mega-conglomerate and own a company on the side, per se. Ferdinand Piech, who ran VW until a few months ago, is a descendant of the good doctor- and it is said that during the 928's development, he pushed for the car to have a V10 engine designed from two Audi 5 cylinder engines [which is itself a standard VW Golf engine with one added...] but this was nixed because the Porsche board did not want corporate ties that close to develop.
Incidently, that V10 is going to finally show up in a diesel version of the upcoming Cayenne~
