Default Auto Tranny Shift Engine Cut-out

I still have a pronouced electrical cut-out between shifts. I disconnected the 2-wire connector in the tire well with no change. How can I eliminate the engine pause?

What rpm are you shifting at ?

What do the rpm drop to before you ask the engine to pull again ?

This happens only at WOT. Since I have adjusted vacuum to shift quickly, the shift happens first, then the engine cuts out for a moment. My understanding is this was designed in to reduce the stress during shifts, but when the shifts are quicker, the engine pause happens way after the shift.

Any ideas how to disable the electrical cut-out? This is on a 93 GTS and may have been a "feature" added to the GTS's. Not sure.

Joe I wonder if something about the supercharger boost might be confusing the mass airflow sensor ??? Yours is a blow through system correct ? Would there be a momentary reversion right after the shift ?

Good one Jim. Yes, Vortech, and the shift might cause a slight reversion. It might not even be an electrical pause, but fuel. Can the shift affect vacuum? causing the fuel pressure to drop?

maybe open the piping to the mass air sensor and see what happens with no boost ?

AFAIK the GTS is no different to all the auto box cars since MY87. That is, there is a "transmission protection switch". This switch is operated on the gearchanges from 1 -2 and 2-3 (upshift or downshift). The igntion is retarded by a wopping 16 degrees very briefly, and then recovers to normal timing within 1 second.

It looks as though you are "beating" the system by speeding up the modulator response. I wouldn't recomend you defeat the protection system.....

Joe
This might be totally far off...but I noticed some weird behavior in mine with intermittant drops in power...more like hesitation....it turned out to be a dying fuel pump....how old is your pump?

Another thought is the tranny protection circuit is dying..but if you disconnected it......and it still does it....so much for that

John - but the shift has already occured, then the pause happens. I did have this problem before the SC, but I'll try Jim's recommendation to remove blower pressure and see if it is different. It's anoying to have the pause after the shift.

Brian - pumps are brand new. I've disconnected the 2-wire connector in wheel well and it acts the same. I'll advise after the blower check.
