What Optima Red Top battery will fit my 928?
#32
Oreilly's has an Optima equivelant, part is a super start 49 AGM that is an exact fit for any 49 series battery like the one in my 86. AGM stands for absorbed glass mat. I get it for 110 with my discount

Great price but someone needs to confirm fitment in our 928 battery box as well as cables being able to be connected without issues. If that can be done, I will order two and I bet there are many others on here who will do the same. Lots of poor experiences with batteries that were close but not quite right.
AGM is the way to go. Have four very large ones on my boat.

I've had a red-top in my Isuzu Trooper for five years, and it is the best battery I've ever owned. I wonder why no other battery manufacturers are competing in any way?

Still waiting for a 928 S4/GTS owner to confirm there are no fitment issues. I am happy to buy when that is done.

The latest one I installed is from Autozone, supposedly made by Interstate. Perfect fit, no cable issues, has the vent hose connection needed for the closed battery box, etc. About $60 IIRC. So far (two years...) so good!
This is one area of the 928 I would not deviate from Porsche for fear of a car fire.

This thread is very topical in my case, considering just yesterday my Duralast 48 D battery needed a jump after not being on a tender for only a week or so. I bought it 7 years ago, so I suppose I'm due.
Re: the AZ batteries, they're now showing a completely different battery, an H6-DLG that may have a bit longer warranty, but is 2 1/2 times the $59.99 that I paid for the 48D in '03. Is the 48 D still available at AZ, or have they been replaced by the pricey H6?
Since I can't look up batteries by group number, and they're only showing one battery for a 928, I'm concerned that they won't guarantee a 48 D - even if they still have them.
Any suggestions?

Had a couple of PM's asking, 7586DT is the model number and the part number is 75-25.

..so Sean, the 7586DT fits in your '88 S4 without a cable mod & w/out the need to insulate the posts to keep them from contacting the batt. cover?

I do have a plastic cover over the top of the battery 'just in case'. Been running the same model for 4 years. I will say that I replaced the positive cable connection when I got the car due to the PO of the PO screwing it up with a buttload of amp cables attached to it and it was trashed. It is the same as the factory one though. But everything seems to be fine.

Thanks Sean. Even though my old Duralast has been taking a charge for the last 12 hrs. I have to assume it's days are done. It doesn't owe me anything.
Since Optima has such a great reputation, why go with anything else - especially if the Optima is $30 less than the AZ alternative?
I went ahead and ordered a certificate from "Cup Daddy". I'll report how everything goes...from getting the certificate, ordering the battery, to fitment in a '91 GT.
BTW, I didn't see any reference to a 7586DT on the Optima site, but did find a reference for a 75/25 Redtop.

I have the same Optima model as Sean in my S4 and I do keep an isolation pad on top, but otherwise, no problem for fitment or cables.
Been running it for years.
