Lightbulb Dry sumping

Hi gang I was wondering if anybody had some good info on dry sumping? I would prefer to use this system rather than accusump for obvious reasons. Does anybody know how the boxter or 996 systems work? How many scavenge pumps do they have? Etc. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Here's an interesting article from 928 International about avoiding 2/6 rod bearing failure in activities that tend to cause it... you'll note it suggests that dry sumping the 928 engine doesn't get you there.

Of course, I'm assuming that's one of your primary causes for considering a dry sump.

I would recommend the text "Engineering to Win" by Carrol Smith (sp?). While it covers many aspects of vehicle engineering, there is a great section on oil systems.

Good luck.

Contact Mark Anderson about his setup. He might give you direction.

Bob Devore developed a the very unique dry sump back in the mid eighties when other 928 racers were still blowing up engines. Thi ssystem is now used by most racers.

It is a very simple system involving 3 scavenging stages and using the stock pump for pressure. There are some details that are determined by the engine builder and must be addressed, but any compentent engine builder can deal with them.

A DEVEK race level accusump system has proven itself successful in both europe and here in the US. But the dry sump is always better, and hell, if you do it right, you will gain around 3-7 hp per liter!
