Post ! Tail light warning

When driving with the fog and parking lights on, occasionally the ! Tail Light warning illuminates. However, when I press the brake to stop it goes off. This does not occur when the headlights are used. Any ideas?

Weird. Whenever I encounter a problem with the "lamp" system I check all bulbs on the car to make sure they are the correct type & wattage specified by Porsche. As I am doing this, I remove each bulb and clean the contacts on both it and the socket. After replacing any incorrect bulbs and the cleaning I have never had a problem with the system again. This is not to say that the lamp control module can't be bad, I personally have never seen one. It's usually pretty reliable if everything is correct, like most things on the 928.

I had my tail light warning come on and it wasnt a tail light but a passenger rear marker light. so check to make sure all of your lights are functioning correctly.

Goes off when I hit the brakes. Funny, "turn on lights/hit brake pedal" is a learned reaction over the years. And no, no lights malfuction.

I beleive the lamp module measures resistance on the given lighting circuits and determines whether a bulb is out. If for some reason there is an out of spec/non-stock bulb, even if it is still working, there may still be a bulb warning.

Dan,
Mine does that as well and it is listed in the user manual. People who ride with me ask what's the purpose and I honestly don't know.

Zan,
All bulbs function. I check them everytime I fuel at night. Checked this morning too. Hopefully it will happen on the freeway when my GF is following so she can tell me what (if any) bulbs go out.

Mike,
My plan is to clean the rear tail lights this weekend as I noticed moisture in them after the post.

Any ideas on fixing the leaks in those? Seems I recall a post a while back. Thanks all!

Moisture can get in by small cracks in the lens/housing, worn gasket for the lamp socket, or plastic welds that are showing age. You can probably help the situation by removing the housing from the car and running a very thin bead of silicon around anything that might be leaking air....then smooth down with finger.
Once silicon is dry, make sure the inside of the housing is dry also, then re-install.

I was getting the Tail Light ! warning every time I touched the brakes, but only when the parking lights or headlights were on. The right brake light wasn't coming on: no love after changing bulbs, checking for corrosion, etc. I switched the left and right assemblies (temporarily) and the the problem followed the right side elements. Turns out there was a bad wire in the right-side tail light harness. Replaced the harness with a used one, and no more warning messages.
Good luck!
