I'm not sure on price, but I'd get some more info and a buttload more pictures if possible. That pic look like it was taken by a police surveillance unit across the street. A car with that kind of miles should at least have some records with it also.
Best of luck, looks like you have a few nice rides already, but I agree, you can never have enough cars.

Well,
I paid 3,450 for my 82 and I have about $1,600 additional into it right now. and I still have a bunch to do to it.

My brother paid $3,550 for his 84 S and his intererior is alot nicer than mine. The interiors on these things are very expensive so I would want to see what kind of shape this one is.

I would also like to hear when the last tb and water pump was done.

good luck

Spend the $15 and get a carfax (unless someone here volunteers). MUST have more pictures. Find out what the deal is with selling it.

This could be a great car if everything checks out.

Value is hard to determine without all the facts, and is subjective anyway. The value is whatever someone is willing to pay!

First, contact the seller and find out what his reserve is. If it's in the ballpark you're willing to pay, ask him about service, ie. timing belt, water pump, etc. See if he's willing to have a PPI done if you can't look at the car yourself. You MUST have more pictures of the interior, dash, Weissach emblem, engine. These cars can deteriorate just sitting there and 37K is no guaranty that it won't need a buttload of $$$ to make it right.

Watch the milage claimed on Ebay

CARFAX searched over 2.07 billion records from nearly 800 sources and found 5 record(s) for this 1982 PORSCHE 928 (WP0JA0920CS821677).

Exclamation

Darren: Posters on this thread are giving you prices for cars that are not Weissach, and not even '82, duh? The Weissach was limited production '82 only, special leather interior features, so you might want to check out the condition of the interior carefully. But I also think you will find the exterior (paint) is special. There are 5-sp Weissachs, but not many. There was even luggage to go with it. I've seen nice ones go for 8 to 9K. "Nice" is a broad and subjective definition, to protect the innocent. Since this is a collector "thing" it should have the emblem on the dash and a plaque to qualify as collectible, luggage is extra. Only you can decide what the collectibilty factor is worth. Good luck.

If by chance you get any pics or info on this from the seller I'd like to see what the deal on this is...looks kinda strange since it was showing 55,000 miles on it in 1988 according to the carfax. If this was a true collector item I think I could have added a few more pictures and info.I'm glad I have documentation of my 39000 miles on my Weissach!

OK I'll fess up here. I paid 9K for my 82 auto a year ago, not a Weissach, but in damn near showroom condition with similar miles. I've put nearly 10K into it in a year, 16K miles, mostly preventative and cosmetic stuff (tbelt/waterpump at an expensive dealer, wires, alternator, pangaskets, motormounts, sweet wheels and tires, etc in my garage. Too much? Maybe, but I'd drive her across country tomorrow with confidence, and smile through every minute of it. Worth it to me. The big spend on preventative stuff is mostly guilt driven, I don't want to be the guy to beat this beauty, and maintaing high condition can become an expensive obsession. Thinking about an S4 sometime, but the love affair with my OB needs to wane first, which may never happen. Also, I've been spoiled by the primo condition, and if I go S4 it would have to be in similar outstanding condition - those kind of S4s are bringing some admirably and probably justifiably steep prices these days. If I ever do sell I know I'm seriously underwater, and you know what? So what. There'll be a certain amount of satisfaction that I helped pass on a well preserved specimen, hopefully to somebody that'll appreciate it as I have. Good luck to you.

Russell,

Good attitude!! That's the spirit of someone who admires and appreciates his car and is willing to accept the hard work which goes into properly maintaining it. The payoff is the pleasure of ownership. It's not a dollars-in, dollars-out proposition.

Spent close to $8600.00 on Pattycakes two years ago.
I wasn't looking for a Weissach -86 1/2 in red, thank you!- That included the flight out to San Diego, a $130. (plus chow) overnight room, and the trip back (gas and chow).
The trip back was supposed to be a three day get aquainted mosey along and sight see.
BUT...
I wasn't used to California freeway road speed on a friday evening in San Diego. Using some convoluted math figured 3100 rpm was about the speed limit - speedo fritzed before I could compare rpm to road speed. Long story shortened.
Left around 8m and hit El Paso at dawn... tach was above 3500rpm a lot...oops.
No tickets, one flat at the gas station in
El Paso. The Weissach ran like a clock, interior was mint, some spydering on driver seat now, body and paint simply marvy.
Don't buy the Weissach for an investment...period.
The luggage, emblem, Weissach Certificate would be neat but can someone show me where these items are going to add significant value to a turn-around sale? What a couple hundred buck's at most?
If the Goldie is in good shape all around buy it for the condition and keep her up.
Join the list and get some oily stuff under the fingernails. No TB/H2O pump change? Haggle on the price. Read up & hook-up with other sHARk owners and DIY.
I think it was Ed Ruiz - Guru/List Mentor - who said -para-phrased - that it's basically a buyers market, and VALUE is what YOU place on the car. For a potential 928 owner the initial cost is a boon, assuming the poor thing has a good interior, fair to good paint, smooth running/idling engine. It runs like a bat out of hell, shifts well without bad sounds. Stops straight and true, doesn't wander all over the road, nor leak copuious quatities of fluids.
You can light candles at your next Novena -sacrificing the neighbors cat won't work- in hopes that the electrics have not been tampered with and everthing (electrical) works.
No regrets here, though I still want the Red 86 1/2, and or an S4.
Tooling around in a cherry, 21 year old, beauty is a good thing.
However, it would be nice if the current owner could spell Weissach. Would be nice if it weren't moving to NYC.
BTW I believe the production run was 205 units.

Ok, I am confused. I thought that the Weissach was limited to 205 produced cars and only in 1982?

John are you saying that Pattycakes is a 86 1/2 Weissach?

Ell, from what I read in John's post..it stated that he wasn't looking for a Weissach...he was looking for a 86 1/2 in red, but ended up buying the Weissach. And yes...it was limited edition in '82 only.It is really a unique car with full leather (even a stitched leather dash),hellbronze gold paint, and even special wheels in a bronze finish. The 3 piece luggage was an option that legend has it most of the dealers kept to themselves but some owners were lucky enough to get theirs. As far as the emblem on the dash mine does not have it...and not sure if that has anything to do with it being an automatic or not.I do have a letter of authenticity sent from Porsche stating it is a Weissach edition though. If anyone does happen to find that elusive 3 piece set of luggage I'd certainly be interested in it.This model was named Weissach in honor of the inventor of the Weissach transaxle designed for Porsche.I'm not aware of any other year model other than '82 and it was either 205 or 206 produced.

We have a Weissach up here in the Detroit area. It looks like it came off the showroom floor. The under body is spotless. He has the luggage and emblem and papers. I drool all over myself when I see this car glimmer in the sun. He will be at the SITM this year, showing it off of course.
