Default Another %$#$#% Interior Light Problem

These problems are so common, I wouldn't blame you for going right to the next post, but here goes- I took glove box out last week. reinstalled with plunger switch properly reattached (seemingly so simple, you can't screw it up). Now I've got this situation:

-Glove box bulb seems to be OK (on ohmmeter), but doesn't light when open.
-LCD clock off.
-All interior lites on when doors open. They dim to about 50% when glove box is opened. Clock display flickers.
-Hatch releases don't work (no release motor action). But, when pulled, interior lites go out when doors open. Back on when switch is released.
-When doors closed, lights go out immediately-no delay-but remain very slightly lit. Pulling hatch release switch kills them completely.

All pertinent fuses check OK. I've been an amateur radio op since high school ( a long time ago), but I still can't figure out the 928 wiring diagrams at all. Sometimes the electrical system looks like it was designed by Thomas Edison himself!

Anyway, comments/hints will be appreciated.

I would ohm the switch (no power and no wires connected) make sure it works, this sound like a short in the glove box light circuit "lights go 50% dim when glove box door is opened", and start looking for pinched wires.

What year is this?

Sounds like you messed with it

I know you didn't mean to but somehow in what you did you reconnected it wrongly...

Did you disconnect the CE panel light also? - you may not have one depending on year... The glove box and interior lights are not supposed to be on the same circuit... did you disconnect any grounds... did you put them all back correctly?

It's an 87 S4-I did notice when I was removing the glovebox plunger switch that it was having an effect on the clock (dimming and re-appearing). Maybe the modified speed nut (with the lead on it) that also secures the switch isn't making good contact with the switch body. The lights are definitely affected, so maybe the PO crosswired something somewhere.
