I've heard the flex head gear wrenches are big help for getting at the oil pan bolts. I can't remember if people recommended the shorty ones, or the regular.

I've been meaning to get a set of the regular ones and the shorty ones for some time now.

I had great success with the Jager Speedmount, which I had in for awhile, maybe like two years or thereabout. It really smoothed things out nicely for me, to the extent that when I did do the motor mount replacement, I was thinking, "What's all the fuss about?" Don't get me wrong; it's definitely an improvement doing the mounts, but the Speedmount was just as much an improvement over nothing(i.e. collapsed mounts) that you might as well toss one in (yeah, it's that easy) until you decide to tackle the job.

Here's my original thread on the subject: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...nt+replacement

Andrew did it the CORRECT way. I did it the....my way, with bottle jacks supporting the engine via a 4X4 from Home Depot.

Gawd that job was a pain in the ***! The biggest problem is that you have to disconnect/re-connect the crossmember. I managed it by putting screwdrivers in holes, and following them with screws. Or something like that! No fun. I'll pay someone to do it next time, trust me. I run 6 miles most days...and I was exhausted by this huge work. What's more, I was sore for a week!

Everyone ought to change their motor mounts and timing belt once. If you haven't yet, then you really aren't a 928 owner yet. At the same time, if you've changed it more than once...you either own a shop or you are a glutton for punishment!

This job was not that awful. With the right tools and supplies it can be done in an afternoon. Driving a car around with basically no motor mounts is goofy and downright dangerous. Replace the hydros with solids, and soon. Be done with it. You and your 928 will thank you later.

Actually, if they are even bad, they are merely collapsed. Not goofy, not dangerous. There are probably more collapsed MM's than non-collapsed MM's on the worlds supply of 928's.

Dude, you either have a lift and some air tools or you are in better shape than I am! I was sore for a week-

Oh Goody another MM thread8>)
This will help me pass the time between the beach and beer time.

I really do not have an opinion about MM's but will give one if asked8>)

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE HYDRAULIC MM's.

Andrew,
Love the variation on the 4X4 engine support - nice job.
