I replaced the central warning brain with a used unit from 928intl and now all lights and functions are working, including the problematic low fuel sender.

There are two connectors, black and yellow. If one connector is lose or removed, you can get partial lights. Two lights, brake check and OXS bypass the box and work even if box is unplugged. The WSM includes a few pages that detail the polarity and testing procedure for the various inputs/ouputs on the central warning brain. It makes it easy to rule in/out a particular sensor.
